Did you see breakaway leader Sebastion Lang try to mash up that climb yesterday in the T of Ca? I thought he was going to get off his bike!

What was the gradient and do what gear do you think he was in? Maybe he had a reall tall drive train set-up for flat terrain, maybe a 53x39 with an 11-21 in back?

Lang was even tacking up that big hill! I've never seen a pro with form like that. He looks like a big, sprinter-type cyclist, so that may have been the problem?

I believe Balcom Canyon has an average of roughly 11.7% with a max of 20%. It was also pretty warm out yesterday. I imagine the canyon could have been in the high 70's or more.

We were watching that section on the big screen TV at the finish line yesterday and everyone was feeling the pain!
