At least the Italians are taking drug enforcement as seriously in other sports as they are in cycling. This is the equivalent of the Festina scandal for the Olympics.

Compare that to the 14 day suspension of any player found positive in Major League Baseball.

not on the same Scale as Festina, To get there, 1/3 of the teams have to either be banned, or quit in protest of the banning of others. Skiers from other nations would have to refuse to compete etc. Instead, they will happily keep on competing, and hope they don't get caught.

Even if all the meds found are legal, its brings to light the lengths athletes and coaches go to in order to win, and there is not multi million dollar deals on the line here either, just olympic glory, and some product endorsement. 100 used Syringes they say, wow.

Synthetic hemoglobin? Epogen? who knows, probably some stuff not yet cleared for use on humans. We will see.

You know there's been like a ton of stuff being tossed out in the last 24 hours or so. Panic sets in quickly when a raid like this happens.

    Interesting point.

Its not uncommon practice for Olympic athletes to leave the country quickly following their performances.

What exactly is the point of leaving the country quickly following a performance? To avoid detection of drugs? Drug testing is done at random before competition for all athletes and immediately after competition for the medal winners. Here is the procedure for post competition testing:

The procedures of urine collection for doping control are rigorously controlled.1 First, a chaperon meets the chosen athlete at the conclusion of the event, provides documentation of his or her selection, and obtains the athlete's signature for verification. The chaperoned athlete attends the doping control station, where forms are filled in to document all prescribed, complementary and other medicines he or she may be taking. The athlete selects his or her own container and provides a urine sample under the observation of the chaperon, and possibly a team representative. Athletes are required to provide a specimen of approximately 75 mL. This can take some time if the athlete is dehydrated, and athletes are permitted to attend press conferences or receive medals in the interim, provided they are always accompanied by their chaperons.

How would leaving the country quickly enable them to avoid detection?
