More Amgen Tour insider info

Hello from Monterey.
They put us in a hotel that's 50' from the crashing waves! Thank You whoever you are!

1. Helicopter should be in the air today. That's been the rumor.
Every night, the caravan members sit in the bar and watch the race coverage. By the 10th minute, everyone returns to their conversation and ignores the tube. Funny but true. Partly, it's because we just spent the entire day watching the race, so we don't need to see more of it. Partly because it's no fun to watch that coverage.

2. Had the rare privilege to follow George H through the TT yesterday. I was easily able to stay glued to Johann's wheel down the descents, but only because he's driving a rental Ford Taurus with low tired pressure. The Discovery car didn't make the trip to CA.

3. Meager crowds yesterday were to be expected. San Luis Obispo "should be rockin'".

Gotta run. Caravan is lining up.

Hmm you would think Subaru USA would make sure he has a logoed up car at this event in case it gets on TV and so the locals get lots of Subaru exposure. Wierd.

That crit. was fun. Coors Light would light it up and we'd be flying past the mission at over 30 MPH. Full fields every year.

I remember standing on the sidewalk watching the racers go by and thinking "I could do that". So I went out and bought a bike, Centurion Le Mans, and quickly realized, "I can't do that!" I can still see that guy stackin' it into the parking meter, it was uuuuggglyyy.

Who was the Crest rider? Can you remember the name??
Some of them are working at the event this year. I'll try to ask them about it tomorrow. I just hope to heck it wasn't them.

I don't think Subaru is a sponsor anymore. One of the guys at the tour told me it would be Skoda now.

I don't know his name. This was my first introduction to both road cycling and bike racing. I just remember that the Crest team were the big guns in the race and I'm pretty sure it was a Crest rider who stacked it. It may have been another rider but it was during the pro race when it happened. You can tell the guy thanks from me. It was that race that got me hooked an I bought a bike the next weekend.

I'll ask Todd Gogulski. He's working the Herbalife booth. He rode for Crest with Schommer, Grewal, etc.

Gosh, I hope it wasn't him. He may not want to remember it.

They'll have a hard time getting those Skoda's into the U.S... what with DOT crash testing and all.
