Well, he's been working on that. He was a feature in the last issue of Procycling, and the article talked about his time trialing work. Apparently he's been using the TT bike three times a week through the winter months, and during Disco's Solvang camp, he spent time in the tunnel evaluating a couple different positions. He's coming of age too, which should bring more consistent power. Remember, he's a bit of a late bloomer in this game. He's with the team to bring out his best. He should be wiping the floor with some folks at the Giro.

It's not 1900' but something like 1220' or 5.1% grade.
I saw TD at registration and knew the record was going down.

The coolest Tom Danielson climb was last year at TDG when he dropped Levi like he was standing still, and then Lance did the same to Landis.

Lance Armstrong has called Tom Danielson the best pure climber he's ever seen.

"Is the climbing formula skewed?" Look at this guy take it even further; and do even better. Pure climbing.
Do you still think Lance can beat him at a hill climb, as you so strongly stated?

I'll still never forget when Lance went down on that climb when his handlebars got hooked, and then 30 feet later his foot unclipped....and then put the hammer down and just obliterated everyone. It was like watching a man possessed.

No knock on T.D., great cyclist, great climber. But Lance he's not.

So yes, I don't care how talented Mr. Danielson is, both men in their primes, Lance wins 90% of the time. IF it came down to winner-take-all. Whenever Lance had to put up or shut up, he delivered the goods. That is beyond question. IF you were paying attention for the past 15 years.

You're missing the team aspect of the sport. If you had been paying attention you would know Lance was kept out of the wind every day by some of the best in the sport. His abilities at being the "tour boss" were great.
The KOMs team is almost always garbage. So you can't think of those mnt stage wins as hill climb ITT's against the best climbers. It was more like a well-managed race; with the mnt stages being the best opportunity to try to make time on the other contenders. Furthermore, look at how many times he came in 2nd on the climbs last year. He didn't win the stages he just beat Jan, etc.
Same idea as dropping the best sprinters before the end, but don’t confuse that with being a better sprinter.

In the past the KoM at the tour has been a joke. Richard Viranque (sp) was a mid level climber who in most cases was given a long leash, usually on Bastille day. He would rack up a ton of KoM points and then get dropped hard when the real men stepped it up.
