Highlands Road Race report.
It was an out and back course, so here is the back part of it. (the second half)

Once again, Cypress has found a way to screw up a race. It was a nice course with hills and smooth roads. The wind kicked up during the last 15 miles and blew straight into our faces all the way to the finish line.
We started out nice and easy, but as soon as mile 6 rolled around the guy I tagged took off. Problem - He had 2-3 team mates at the front of the group that chased me down everytime I would try to bridge, but then not pull when they caught me. I got angry at this, and an andry Cypress is a fast Cypress. I laid it down like Ike and bridged like Golden Gate. I wondered why no one else was trying to catch him with me....hmm. We went around a corner and boom. Cypress didn't Know the course. I caught him at the BASE of a 1 mile long 7% climb.
The group slams into us like a windsheild to a bug and spits the breaker off the back like he was a pothole being avoided. I stay with the group for a little bit, but the mile long chase and repeated attempts have thrashed me. I limp off the back and make it to the top of the hill as the group was at the bottom of the next. My dad and woman were at the top of the climb cheering me on, and that is the only thing that kept me from turning around and heading back to the car. Honestly I really didn't want to race the remaining 27 miles my myself.
I descended like a guy that descends quickly, then climbed the next hill out of pure rage. I passed 2 guys going up, then two more on the flats. The latter two caught my wheel and I pulled them up to two more guys that caught on. We pacelined it until the climb came up, then I kinda went off the front. I thought the guys were still behind me, but I guess I dropped them on the first pitch. I rode all the way until 5 miles from the finish by myself, then the other guys caught me. I had been fighting the headwind and was glad to see them. There were 5 of us together 2 miles form the finish and well, here is a picture from the finish line.....Pwned.

Lesson learned, look at the course profile. Also, why were you mad at the other 2 guys? They shouldn't tow you to their teamate. They were doing their job.

The finish line is only 1/4 mile away from the Continentla Divide. Sticks indeed.
