The Monday night group ride was last night. When I arrived I saw the usual 20+ crowd of guys that claim "it's too early in the season to be going this hard/long/fast". But one stood out. I instantly recognized the kit as a Broadmark Capital set up. I see the Ridley full carbon Record bike. This is going to be a fun ride.
We head off and the wind instantly picks up. We dropped 3 guys in the first mile of the ride somehow and keep on our "beginning of the ride" pace (slow). Into the wind we go, we turn here and there and everywhere, then head back towards town. We get into town then head out again with about 8 fast guys.
The wind was getting serious about then and blowing sand and small rocks into our faces. Broadmark (Alan) and I led everyone so the other guys could have their fun on the way back home. We rounded a corner into a headwind (Bozeman is a vortex) and found that only 2 guys had been able to keep pace with us. The others had complained about the speed and went home according to the remaining.
After a short climb, we turn onto South 3rd which is a 3 mile long flat straight that separates suburbia from farm land. At the end of this road is a big yellow "fire truck" sign. Sprint point. I explain to Alan that it is considered a finish line of sorts and I am usually the only guy to actually sprint for it. His exact words - "I'll race you for it". BINGO. We get side by side with no wind advantage and begin the "false start" game. 300-ish yards from the sign he goes. I go.
Side by side drag races are so much fun. He's about half a bike length in front, then I start pulling him back. Only about 150 yards from the sign and I pass him. I pass the sign 15 feet in front! Hoozah!
That is my Cypress vs Broadmark story.
Oh, here is a picture of Alan if you don't believe me. He's been with Broadmark for 3 years now.
