yay for Savoldelli!
Now Der Kaiser...I know he usually starts off his season in not the best form, but 80th?? Is that where he usually is around this time of the year?

Even though he's stated that the Giro is just for him to ride himself into shape for the the Tour. 80th position for arguably one of the top 5 best time trialists in the world has to be considered worrisome. He lost 49 seconds in just over 6k.

What makes Ullrich a good TT'er, that is when he is on form and not slogging down on brats?
Is it mostly his power output at LT?

I've been watching the race on RAI in italian. The biggest story is Jan's weight (he's really at least 3 kilos too heavy). They've been making cruel jokes already into day 2. I have to say he's visibly hurting.
Three spectators were hurt yesterday when a bike fell off a support vehicle and flew into the crowd. Minor injuries, but even 15lbs has to hurt at 60km/h.
Savoldelli was impressive, he took a final corner, after slowing from 80km/h downhill, 10km/h faster than anyone-later he said he was not in control and he went in too fast.

I'd save my legs for the last part of the Giro... anyone willing to go out and hammer now and lose their legs either really have no strategy, plan to drop out, or are really confident that they can win and keep their strength for the entire Tour.
I'm waiting for Stage 16... then we'll see what happens.
