Anybody Race a Trek Pilot?
I'm curious to hear if anyone out there is racing on a Trek Pilot as I am doing. I've done one road race so far, and I don't feel that my Pilot 5.2 held me back at all. In fact, I've heard of many riders racing Specialized Roubaixs which are similar geometry bikes. In fact, I believe the Pilot's wheelbase is a tad shorter than the Roubaix's......Anyway, my Pilot 5.2 is spec'd as follows:
- OCLV 120 Carbon Frame
- Bontrager Sattelite Plus Carbon Fork (plan on upgrading in August)
- Bontrager Race X Carbon Seatpost
- Bontrager Race Lite Wheels
- Bontrager Race Lite Handlebars / Stem
- Bontrager Race Luxe Saddle w/Titanium Rails
- Michellin Race2 Pro Tires (23c)
- 53/39 Ultegra Crankset
- 12-27 Ultegra 10 Cassette (planning on switching to 11-23)
- Look Carbon Pedals
- Ultegra Brakes and Brifters
I do believe I'll need another bike to race Crits, but this bike is fast AND comfortable.

Your bike should be fine to race. One issue might be a relatively up right position, but there's no reason that you can't set it up with a good position for racing.

I don't see why not...though, I've never seen anyone race on one before. But like you say, I see plenty racing on Roubaix's. I'm sure Gerosteiner's use of that frame has something to do with it. I bet if you got a team to race on Pilots, you'd see them a lot more in races.

you might want to take a closer look at any possible fork upgrades. the axle-crown measurement on the stock pilot fork is pretty long compared to most road forks. going to a "standard" length fork would wind up increasing your head and seat angles and throwing the handling off a bit, perhaps more than you'd like.
