Michael Rasmussen

Whatever happened to this guy? He won King of the Mountain on last year's Tour, and was perhaps as high as 3d overall until his awful day on the last time trial--the stage that Lance won.

Not a word about him this year, even in commentaries on last year's Tour. Anyone know what happened, and where he is now? Not on the Tour, apparently.

I've been wondering about him too.

After stage 3, he’s 84th in the GC. (-1:07)

I’m sure he’s waiting for the mountains to bust a move.

He is prolly trying to keep a REALLY low profile..... The reason he did so well last year was that no one really knew who he was and let him get away on some pretty lengthy break aways. This year will be a LOT harder for him to gain Mt. pts.

If I was him and only wanted the polka dot jersey, then I would lose a lot of GC time the first couple of weeks so later on in the Mts. the stronger teams like Disc. and CSC will let him get away in breaks.

He's been not doing well this season, he dropped out of the Giro early. The team is complaining his weight obsession has become detrimental.

you think?

M Rasmussen - the cyclists Calysta Flockhart.

I bet those poor starving kids in Africa feel full after looking at his post tour shots.

I heard he fractured his wrist trying to get his quick release undone. Then some buzzards landed on his handlebars.

Rasmussen found himself in a lucky situation last year, and some people are extrapolating form that to expect he should contend this year. IMHO highly unlikely, particularly considering the TT's. However, if he plans on contending for GC this year, you wouldn't expect to hear anything about him now in the flat stages. Personally, I think if he's got the form to win anything in this year's TDF its KOM. You may well see him make an early break on the first stage with significant climbs to get KOM points, but given last year, they might not let him get a way. Rasmussen's 15 minutes of TDF fame is likely over.

After Stage 4, he's sitting in 84th place, 1 minute 7 seconds back. IIRC, he was six or seven minutes back last year when he made his epic solo breakaway on stage 9. One assumes after last year, no one would let him get away again when the race reaches the mountains, but I'm wondering if any team will step up to take the responsibility of keeping him in check. The sprinters' teams are chasing down the breaks now, but they won't do it in the mountains. It's possible the GC teams will all try to stall to make another team shoulder the commitment--and if they wait too long, Rasmussen could get lucky.

I hope so.

1 minute and 7 seconds is nothing. You can make up 1 minute 7 seconds on the first category 2 climb of a mountain stage against the sprinters currently at the top of the GC.

Yes, but he came in 158 in the Prologue, loosing close to a minute to the GC contenders in slightly over 4 miles. Not exactly top GC form, particularly considering the two long TT's to come. There aren't enough crashes, or drug disqualifications to come to put Rassmussen on the podium.

Yeah, we all got some tickets to the GUN SHOW.

My biceps are the size of his quads--Guess that means there's more to becoming a pro cyclist. DAMN.

Yea, I started to wonder if he was even in the TdF this year. There has been no mention of him from the OLN team. It'll be interesting to see what he does in the mountains.

I don't know--at this rate there may be enough drug DQ's and crashes to put ME on the podium

Well here in Denmark the media is following him closely on a daily basis with interviews and stuff.

No one here really believes he stands a chance in the general classification even though he claims he has
improved on his timetrials. Many think we'll see him drop lot's of time on the TT so he won't be considered
an immediate threat and thus they just might let him take off and try to win a mountain stage or 2.

He almost won one of the mountain stages in the Tour de Swiss, but he "died" not far from the finish line and was overtaken. He says he ran out of water and food and the race officials wouldn't let his support car come up to him. Anyway, that stage was ofcourse just a training run, but also showed good form and that he will be a force to reckon with once we hit the mountain stages.
