Costs of Drug Testing
Just curious...
With all the news about doping and testing, new kinds of drugs and ways to dope, and new kinds of tests to detect doping, all this doesn't exactly come cheap. There are now testing officers who tell the cyclist that they need to be tested and those who actually administer the tests and other related staff. The WADA have thier staff (doctors, nurses, etc.), UCI approved testing labs etc. Not to mention the lawyers!
I guess I'm wondering who pays for all these tests? Are entry fees raised for UCI sanctioned events to offset the costs? Do the racing teams themselves have to pay for drug tests or do sponsors pick up the costs? How much does an individual test cost? And has this increased the cost of running and sponsoring a team?
Lots of questions here (I tried to cover all my bases). I couldn't find anything about this in search.
