Definition of pain = 40 km time trial

Did my first 40 km time trial this weekend. My time was 68 minutes. I was hoping for a faster time but the course was actually quite hilly. All I can say is OUCH! I was chasing the rider in front of me and it took every ounce of strength I had to hold the pace. I loved every minute of it.

I was wondering if it is worth taking tylenol or any sort of pain medication?

You mean as a preventive measure for the pain of a TT?

I'll leave that one to the TT experts, but as I understand it they always hurt. If they don't you're probably not going hard enough.

The pain is cleansing, almost like a crucifiction. Embrace and stay in the red zone, recover, repeat as needed.

Will be doing 30K TT this Sunday, will see how I will do. I think TT is the only event that shows how masochist cyclists are.

I'm doing my first TT. Its a 12 mile one. Not to long, but long enough to hurt. I'm really looking forward to it. There is a two man team TT as well that I'm doing.

If you're not hurting, you're not going fast enough. Unless you have some sort of imflamatory pain, like joint pain, I don't think tylenol would do you much good.

Oh ... do you mean take a medicine to help you perform better?

Hmmm, where have I heard that before?

Have I doped? Sure! Took Vicodin before rides as my broken pelvis healed ... works great!

My best 40k TT was 1:00:30 on a straight road bike at Big Flats, WI.

Yeah, it hurts.

One downside was almost being run over by some lady in a minivan driving on a wrong side of the road! I guess she was trying to pass some other racers, but she wasn't doing it very fast. I was talking to someone else who got brushed by a green minivan (same one?), actually tore his bibs!
