What if? Re: Floyd

Is it likely that Floyd will ask that his other samples be tested for synthetic testosterone?
If he proclaims that he didn't cheat then wouldn't something like this help him clear himself
if he really believes he is innocent? would it take away some of the issue regarding sample
handling and protocol?

Let's argue that he has this done and no synthetic testosterone was found. Either the
samples were spiked or he got a blood transfusion. Is there any way they could figure
out whether he got a blood transfusion or not on that stage? Did he only provide urine
samples or blood samples too?

I've asked several people and publications this question...if he had been under the 4:1 ratio in any of these tests, including the three after stage 17, do they still test for synthetic testosterone? Nobody seems to know for sure.

It is possible to be within the 4:1 ratio and still be cheating. I'd think that they would test for synthetics, regardless.

The answer is no. The Isotope test is relatively expensive. That's why they use the T/E ratio as a screen. If your within limits, end of story. 4:1 or above and then it has to be confirmed, either by comparing a number of T/E tests of the same athlete, or preferably the Isotope test. The actual WADA protocol is laid out in at least one thread on here, and quoted by the Doctor who designed the Isotope test, and runs a WADA certified lab.

I believe that I read somewhere that an Isotope test costs approximately 300 dollars.

Why don't they just take more testosterone and epi together... so the ratio is the same. It sounds to me they are testing the ratio NOT the conc. in the blood. I don't see how it could ever be a problem with doping.

Unless like another pointed out

1.) Body chemistry was off (normal amount added made for a positive test)

2.) After getting a blood transfusion from blood weeks ago that STILL had testosterone it changed his levels

or 3.) conspirarcy theory.

All the non-positive samples before and after were probably destroyed, or accidentally lost.

If we are talking about the same french lab that was after Armstrong, should "accidentally" be
in quotes?? ""

Very doubtful he would ask for this. Any of the samples before are of no use to him. So what if he did not dope until stage 17 if he did dope stage 17? The samples from before can not clear him, but thaey can convict him. The ones after might be of use to him but if other things I have heard are true the expectation would still be 'clean' for the next days sample even if he was quite dirty on stage 17. If the level of synthetic Testosterone was very high for stage 17 then possibly a later test would be of some use to him.

Now, I thought I read some where that the Raw Data (I have not seen the actual Raw Data) on the T/E ratio was a "normal" T and a "low" E skewing up his ratio. 11:1 is not that far from 11:3 (~4:1).

And to answer a question up a ways yes if one was going to cheat with Testosterone there is Epitestosterone one can take with it to balance out the "normal" 4:1 UCI/WADA ratio.

I still need to do some looking in to how the sample are run for the Carbon Isotope Analysis. Which in the end is just another Ratio which could be compromised by a skilled lab worker.
