2nd race in the books

Well, two weeks ago I had my first bike race and got dropped in the 3rd mile of a descent and almost getting last. Yesterday, I raced with a tougher field and got 5th out of 40 (lost a 7 man sprint for 2nd). Thanks for all of the advice you guys! I could hardly believe the combination of pedestrian like paces and all out sprints uphill there were during the race.

Can't wait untill next race!

yeah, if most of the riders are unattached and nobody feels like setting a pace, then you'll get wild swings in speed like. i've been in races that dropped down to 17mph. when the pace is that slow you can bet there will be an attack any second. it's funny to watch everyone glance around to see who will make a move.
