OVER/UNDER Davieee Zabriskieee Hour Attempt
 

possibly the coolest rider in the pro peloton is going for the american hour record in two days. i think he is doing the ondrey sosenka old school style. any guesses? 45.5-48.5 is my best guess (kinda wide spectrum, huh?) i don't know, it seems like his speed in time trials is derived from his aero position not so much power. think that advantage will be lost in the track drops. should be interesting.

I'm sure you have a point but to some extent good position is good position. He has to be flexibile to get that low so no reason he can't do the same in the hooks.

He'll probably do it in a clown suit or something like that.

It's a charity event, btw. Landis and Bobke will be there.

Seems like if he finished it, there should be an American record. Not a horribly fast one, but it should be there...

Lance never attempted it. He'd be foolish to try as well.

If he does it, its not going to make him any more famous really..

But he runs the risk...albiet a small one, of failing the doping controls. Some of us think it would be a set up, some of us would think it was about time etc.... But regardless of your stance on that issue, theres a lot at risk for little gain.

So as I see it there has been a U.S. record for over 100 years. They don't retire records just because they get old do they?

records? given his stature as a rider one would think he did.

I read where Taylor was World Champion in the Flying Mile in 1899.

sad news, this was posted on the fixed gear fever site:

"It was a miserable failure to communicate.

We arrived at ADT at 9:00am for the 9:00am start of Zabriske's Hour attempt. We found Dr. Kays on the track half way thru his Masters World Hour Record attempt.

30 min later, he ended w/174 laps....7 laps short of the record.

During his event everyone was murmuring about wondering where was David Z? Well, he was dressed in jeans and a tshirt sitting in the front row of the stands next to Floyd Landis. Most of the 50 specators wondered why he was not warming up. At least 20 people asked me why he was not warming up as they expressed anticipation at seeing him ride.

I dunno?....?.....

The second Dr. Kays was done, everyone applauded and half the audience got up and left.

The rest of us stood around waiting for Zabriske to ride. After waiting about 10 min we all watched him get up and amble across the track to the apron to chat w/the other VIP's while the officials packed up their gear, put away the starting gate and left the bldg.

Huh?

Turns out "Zabriske did not have the correct bike with him so the ride was cancelled."

I don't for one second believe that was why he did not attempt the Hour Record but it was the only unofficial reason given that I heard...

anyway....While we were still mingling and confused, Flyod (who has never ridden the track before) took a twirl around the black line on the blue accelerator bike and nearly crashed when he tried to coast to a stop at the starting gate....uh....the pedals and bike kept moving as he momentarily lost his cool! Just as he began to recover, he ran into the sponges that were still on the blue band and had to get up to the black line....w/almost enough speed to stay on the track. All's well that ends well?

With that the VIP's packed up and headed down to San Diego for some exhibition laps?

....def a bizzarre event. Half the people at ADT were def expecting Zabriske and the other half were not expecting Dr. Kays. No one seemed to leave satisfied. "
