I remember his name in Greg Lemonds training book. He mentioned Lindsay as an example of someone who made time for the sport, yet had a full time job. That was 1986. He's retired now, so I'd imagine it almost full time at this point.

I can't say I know Lindsay that well but I see him out on the roads around here in the Bay Area. I was on one group ride with him a couple of years ago. He dropped me on the climb up Page Mill Rd. and he's 10 years older than I am.
