'Floyd Fairness Fund' open

It will be interesting to see how much they raise.

Quote:
Floyd Landis is now soliciting donations to help him in his defense against doping charges, at the website www.floydfairnessfund.org. The fund, which is organised by Landis' press advisor, Michael Hensen, says that it's three-pronged mission is to "To support Floyd Landis against unsubstantiated doping allegations, to provide the means to attain fairness for Floyd, and to bring justice to those responsible for misconduct in the case."

The fund further says that it "is committed to provide Floyd the professional resources to ensure that science, fact and due process decry the sports bureaucrat's unsubstantiated allegations." The website claims that "Anti-doping organisations and sports bureaucracies have acted with gross misconduct in Floyd's case," and that "The facts of Floyd's case bear witness to these egregious problems in process, analysis and with bureaucrats uninterested in achieving a fair outcome."

"By championing Floyd Landis' case and assisting him to win his fight for a far and just outcome, the Floyd Fairness Fund hopes to leave a legacy of advocacy for athletes' rights to compete in fair and clean sport by advancing best practice standards in anti-doping testing and enforcement." PayPal may be used to further these goals.

Didn't Hamilton do something similar to this? If so, I hope it doesn't end the same...

Maybe its a scam.

If you go to the donation page it says it is not a 501c3 org. which means it is not a non-profit group.

A 501(c)3 is type of incorporation that is used to set up a charitable corporation. A charitable company is a type of company that is set up with the intention of providing a service to the community, rather than making a profit. Incorporating a company makes it a legal entity, responsible for its actions in the community. This is important, as it removes a great deal of the responsibility from the person who is starting the company. If you start a 501(c)3 company, you want the legal liability for possible damages to be the responsibility of the 501(c)3 corporation so that your personal possessions are safe from creditors.

I'm starting the STUPOR fund (Stop These Unending Patentcad Obnoxious Rantings). Send $ to www.patentcad.com. As soon as the donations hit $100K you'll never hear from me again.

...the cheque is in the mail.

Landis is turning more and more into Hamilton as time goes on. Now they are both telling us, "it's complicated".

Landis is shopping a book about all this in New York right now -where do those profits go? It's not like this is a poor guy here. I guess complicated defenses take more money.

I still find it hard to care about the fates of Basso, Ullrich, Landis, etc. The trick is to watch the spring races and just ignore il Giro di Drugge and Le Tour de Dope.

They have to wait until the hearings are concluded. IF the USADA upholds the adverse finding, the Tour organizers will officially strip him of the title. Landis will undoubtedly appeal to the CAS. I.e., this is going to drag out for awhile.

Its sad to say, but "justice" is only available for the wealthy, or the extreemly poor. A regualar guy could never defend theirself against this type of alligation. Just serve your time is best ya can get

The sad thing is I don't believe any of them, Mr Pound and Mr McQuaid to Flandis, Hamilton and Basso. Every single one of the riders and officials involved is trying to prove themselves to be the one who's right. Pound only believes that all riders are guilty of doping but just haven't been caught yet. McQuaid doesn't know what he's supposed to do...fight WADA or hang them all. The Tour organizers are pretty much blowing with the wind. One day the rider is the greatest thing to happen to cycling the next day he's Satan in spandex. The riders are most likely taking banned supplements and playing the Russian roulette with the doping controls.

Honestly until the governing bodies get their collective acts together I say let riders ride. If they cannot with out a shadow of doubt convict these guys of doping then leave them and us the f'ck alone to enjoy the sport.

I can't help but think that the "fairness fund" is more interested in getting Floyd off scot free than actual fairness.

It could still be that Floyd gets a fair trial and is guilty. Fairness and guilt are mutually exclusive.

Although the hearings that the riders get after they are found to be non-negative seem to be fair, the process of testing them seems not to be so transparent. Riders cannot have another lab test their samples for instance, there seems to be a lack of oversight and adhering to protocol as well. Also if the head of the body that is testing you assumes guilt before you are even tested, how fair will that testing process be? I'm not saying that riders don't dope, but they really are left with little recourse if they are found non-negative.

I'm with you, I just got the vibe from reading their stuff that fair = innocent. I'm not saying in any way that the system isn't broken.

Then I fully expect you to ignore any thread or post any report/rumor/rant regarding Il Giro and Le Tour this year.

Your posts are fine for the most part, Doc, but it's hilarious just how many times you have given up on professional cycling and cannot care about it anymore.

Stop acting like you are above the drama and start enjoying it for what it is: Fodder for us interweb simpletons.

Global Warming may be the End of the World, but at least we won't all freeze to death on our bicycles.

So NY = Hell? I'll buy that Yeah the funny thing is if more people rode bikes then we might stave off the effects of global climate change.
