Quit school, train full time, buy a Cervelo P3 and Zipp 808's, hire a full time coach, nutirionist, and soignor. And work like hell for 4-5 years.

I doubt there are 5 people on this board that could do that. 25mph for a 40 k TT is sort of a bench mark. 1 hour 40k is no longer that elite, but even today very very few people can do two of them together.

MWCCC/B's.

Unfortunately, I'll probably only be doing the OSU races. All the other races are too far away considering I can drive an hour to a race and race with my USCF team.

Work on both. That is to say, going fast over 25 miles is great if you want to dominate the collegiate c and d fields, but if you want to move up, you'll have to work on distance too.

Aerobars, EPO and new parents. 25mph solo is pretty damn fast, solo, on a road bike.

Best way to prepare for most any road bike racing, particularly shorter races, is to do high intensity training. Forget average speed during most of your workouts and do shorter burts so you are ready for the surges and uneven pace of road racing.

Thanks for the responses! I got 25mph from another forum where I asked what average speeds racers averaged over longer distances.

In RACES and big, bad group training rides, yeah. But solo, hell no. I can rock 25mph in the drops or rowing on the hoods for a good while, but certainly not 2 hours.

That's pro level, son.
