House The Cypress.
Since the Mt. Hood stage race seems to be the BF race, is there any chance one of you fine folks could provide a roof for The Cypress and his lovely lady? The last stage race I did racked up $400 in hotel charges alone, and the Wallet (female) was none too happy about it.
I'd rather not camp, but ideas are welcome.

Besides, we live in NY and the race is in Oregon. But don't get your hopes up Cypress. I'm all for it if you want to stay here for some NY race, but my wife thinks you're insane.

Geez dude, I can't believe no one is showing you the love. Rad and Jakey and all those guys are in Portland, you'd think they'd offer...
Ok, you can stay here. I'm only a few hundred miles from Mt. Hood, in CANADA ( a foreign country populated by moose, deer, walruses, lemmings, with minimal crossbreeding betwixt those species...no suicidal moose, say...well, a few...the tusked lemmings are to be avoided as well), quite near the border. Need to hone your climbing prior to the race? No sweat, we have major climbs up Mt. Seymour and curiously...Cypress Mtn. as well. Short horrific climbs are available a few blocks from Chez Starclimber. Just across the border, Mt. Baker and the North Cascades Highway. For a vicious day of misery you won't soon forget, a ride to Whistler and back is hard to top. I think about 1% of that ride is flat.
Impractical, I suppose. Too bad. Hope you get some reasonable offer.

Hey Cypress.....you might want to think about finding some cheap accommodations in Hood River.
Depending upon where you're at in Portland, the races may be an hour to an hour and a half away.
I don't know how early you like to get up and how far you're willing to drive on race days, but it's something to consider. My closest contacts in Portland are about two hours away.

30+ races across the Southeast last season. I spent many, many nights sleeping under the camper-top of my pickup (R.I.P truckasaurous-rex)

I'd offer a place to stay, but I'm not that close to Hood River either. It's a good 107 miles, estimated driving time of 1 hour, 43 minutes according to Yahoo maps. Not the best of trips each day to stay refreshed and ready to race.

Sorry I can't help you Cypress. I think I'll be doing the race, but I'll be staying at a friends house in Hood River with my whole family. Between my two toddlers, and my friend's kids, I am not sure you want to stay there anyway. There'll be 4 brats running around between 1 and 4 years old.
I'd suggest going in with Vino and his team and finding a house to rent in Hood river. If you get enough people, it shouldn't be expensive and you can be a few blocks from the Crit, TT, and a lot of restaurants and bars. (Maybe if you are close enough to the bars it will increase the chances of a decent finish for the rest of us.)

I would offer a place in Portland but... Looks like my mom sold her house for the move to Reno. I will probably be sleeping on the couch at my Uncles instead.
Unless my team comes up with some funds for housing.

One of the sponsors did this last year:
Taco Del Mar Offers $6000 in Travel Grants to Women’s Teams
Hood River, OR (February 16, 2006) With a commitment to take women’s cycling to a whole new level the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic has partnered with Taco Del Mar restaurants to offer travel grants to all Pro 1-2 women’s teams planning to compete at this year’s event. The grants are $500 cash and are available to Pro 1-2 women’s teams of 5 or more. A total of 12 grants will be distributed for this year’s event to assist in travel costs and expenses.
The grant money might be offset by the new attire you'll need, along with the cosmetics and whatnot, but I'm betting you could be at least as convincing as the Tammster:
I'm working on it--gotta a whole bunch of great ideas like this one, so I'll let you know what floats to the surface. Good luck, buddy!

I guess a good way to put it is: No cheap place to stay = no racing.
I'm not willing to spend 100/night for 8 nights for one race.

Check out The Dalles. Couple of places for 55 a night.
Check the others places as well. Reserve early would be my advice.
Closer to Portland would be Troutdale and Gresham.
