Fabio Casartelli Motorola Cards
Back in 1995 soon after Fabio Casartelli was unfortunately killed on a tricky mountain descent, my wife and I sent in a donation to an address ESPN had provided on their broadcast to his widow and infant son. A few months later, we received three separate Fabio Casartelli Motorola cards; one each signed by Motorola coach Jim Ochowicz, Fabio's parents, and his widow. Each card was hand-written, personalized with mine and my wife's names, and hand signed. I thought is was such a warm gesture, given the amount of grief they were all dealing with at the time ; grief that only someone in their situation could only understand. I will forever keep the cards as a remembrence of a husband, father and Olympic champion rider lost in the prime of his life. I don't think I have ever talked about these cards with any of my cycling friends. Have any forum members received these cards as well? Gino

I too sent some $$ to benefit fabio's wife and daughter. I felt it was the least I could do since I knew that a young pro usually doesn't have a great deal of resources to ensure the future security of his loved ones.
I also received the handwritten cards signed by ochs and fabio's family. Really nice!
