echapp...

not sure about the size small frame, but it looks like they used the standard exit port on the bottom of that stem. still, getting a center-pull brake on the bike as you did is a better solution. there's a small aero savings. the DA brake's profile is pretty wide. nice work; look forward to more photos.

I was riding with some ******bags one day that were pissing me off so I dropped them on a climb while riding with no hands on the bars...
Was not well received by the group...

Teton, thanks for the info. Unfortunately it's not doable. The picture is from Pinotti's bike, and i've been poring over the gallery quite a few times in the last month. I know someone who bought Noemi Cantele's Plasma 3, and he said they took a dremel to the aerobar of her bike as well. This bike has quite a few design flaws in terms of placement of items, but so far i've been able to rig up something

btw, very impressuve on being in a tuck position while on the rollers. I'm too scared of doing IAB on my rollers, but perhaps it's not as bad with a TT bike

yep, i've seen where they do the mod on the bars for those. the picture i sent has the DA brake working without that routing.

all is moot because you have a suitable (and more aero) setup, but it looks like it can be done.

drilling out that stem is not a huge deal. so beefy, though.

TT position is harder than IAB (IMO) mainly due to the more forward position on the TT bike. more forward = more weight on the front wheel = more weight on one drum. even in the IAB, most people have their road bike saddle further back so there's still relatively more weight on the rear drums.

not sure why it clicked but it just did. i think it's just the sum of lots of little bits of work on a stable position, finally coming together.

Huh, Well I guess I'll have to get that chopped when I dial in my position. Bummer

I highly doubt UCI rules apply to cdr, and usac is much more anything goes.

I wonder why pro teams just don't take the above to it's logical conclusion and put pegs on the hub to steer by.

The bars are about inline with the tire. The picture is distorted due to the wide angle lens. I was trying to respond to the "do you have a picture of you on the bike" and the page locked up but the drops are where they were in 2010 for all intents and purposes. It's just different in terms of drop and reach, hence the need for a weird stem.

I think my saddle forwardness would be more significant. It's basically 0 cm behind the BB spindle. Also on the black bike the clearance is illegal to the rear tire (technically too "aero"), at least with clinchers. A local official is an A level official so he points these things out to me as an FYI.

If I ever do a Nationals or something then I'll worry about it. I had illusions of grandeur and actually bought a Tares saddle (short version of the Antares) but I've had it for two years? now and never even put it on a post.

An abbreviated version of my original response (lost when the page locked up).

I tried to take a picture tonight but I couldn't due to me not being able to do the phone thing right. I have a camera with a delay but it's 2 hours away and I won't have it until Sunday. I'll try again then.

However the drops are where they were when I first built up the bike. My other bike, same fit geo, had the same bar/stem as the red bike (when it was orange). Here's a side shot of me on that bike:

I'm getting dropped in the picture so I'm forward on the saddle (Red Trolley, on the little hill to the finish, 4 laps to go in the M35 race 2011).

Even in UCI land short people can get -5cm exemption super easy; same with aerobar extensions for tall people.

CDR what's your CdA?

(Why does that sentence make me think of the movie "Airplane"?)

I probably push 2x as much air around as you...

Another picture from the same race sort of illustrates me relative to the others. I don't know what my CdA is, not even a guess. In the picture I believe there was a headwind on the hill, slightly from the left, so even going up the thing in the field I was aware of the wind. I was also absolutely on the limit for most of the race so I was doing anything I could to save energy. I wish that I'd packed the Stingers instead of the Jets as my second set of wheels - it would have been interesting if the lighter more aero wheels would have saved me the 10-20 watts I needed to hang in for at least one more lap.

As far as my relative height, I'm 5'7" but I'm usually one of the tallest when I'm sitting in an airplane or a train. When I stand up… well I don't have to duck to clear the luggage rack on a train. In movie theaters I am very, very conscious of slouching on purpose so as not to get in the way of people behind me.

There's a picture of the bike in my post as well, here. What the heck, I'll post it. You can see that the drops are pretty much even with the tire. Due to the fact that I cut off a couple inches off the bar the end doesn't finish flat, it finishes at the end of the drop curve. I think I took the picture after we got back from the race as it was no longer a virgin if you will.

The latest iteration of my race rig. Finally cut the steerer, put a -17 stem on, and a new saddle. Also, replaced the top bearings on my headset, totally corroded by sweat. Have starting putting a bag over the headset area on the rollers, which does not look pro at all.

My fit is feeling really good. Been spending a lot more time in the drops on the rollers. Muscles are adapting a bit, but it feels really balanced and powerful when I get down low - dare I say, comfortable even.

A teammate of mine (SOC in the blog and vids) said he can draft fine off of me, even on the drops or the Cane Creek bars when I used them. I still sit up and try to give him more of a draft but when we did something like 10 practice jumps/leadouts he was totally fine sitting on my wheel. He rides a 56 cm Cannondale, to give a relative height.

I did fit him a few years ago and his style, under duress, is similar to mine - very low and flat. It used to be much more upright. He's to the right in this picture, launching his field sprint winning move. And yes, I think he could use a slightly longer stem now.

Thinking about a Leopard or a Foil (loaner from my brother). Looking to go with a slightly smaller frame, too.

^ why smaller? Your Giant looks like it's nicely balanced.
