I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy a GXP Quarq and run a Praxis converter, or buy a BB30 and run the native BB and hope for the best.

Well, now I need to remedy the dreaded BB30 "creak". Ordered all the tools, bearings along with some Loctitte 609.

My old one. I raced on it 3-4 times, but loved it too much to risk crashing, so while my best road bike, not my regular racer. And in those days frame whip for a 190lb rider was a real thing. It had one piece sewn leather handlebar covering. I did put some 30,000miles on it including SoCal to DC ride. I typically road it with Clement del Mundo - silk 28mm tires until I ran out (I had a bag of them). The 753 tubing was hearth brazed and the nails are still in the lugs. I stupidly painted it yellow late '80s and its hanging in my garage now. It was supposed to come from the Joop's batch of left overs. I got it in 1981. It had the Campy Super Record group with Ti spindle. The rear derailleur was also Campy's first use of titanium. Weight was just under 18lbs with the 550g Brooks Pro saddle.

true bb30 or pf30?

i've either been really lucky or am onto something... but lately i like to use lactate medium strength retaining compound. has worked great for me directly on the outside of bearings, on plastic cups or alloy cups. been running bb30/variants for 7-8 years, many bikes (road & mtb), many i've owned and others i've serviced.

good tools for pressing the bearings (or adapters, if you are using them) help a TON....though i used ghetto press tools until recently.

of course, it could depend on the manufacturing. i have no experience with november.

i know how annoying those creaks can be; hope you can resolve it quickly.

I try not to lactate on my bikes, always seems to leave a sticky mess...

I've had it for a month. The color scheme perfectly matches my kit, which is a bonus. After my first ride I thought my powermeter was off since it was about 10 watts faster. Also now that I don't have a wobbly fork I can now suddenly corner like Valentino Rossi. I considered getting 60mm wheels next year but with our winds (Santa Ana territory) its pretty sketchy in the Jet 4's.

Probably not going to race it until next year, since I can't replace it right now if something happens.

3kmi - my buddy has a purple Spooky like that. And a silver Spooky cross frame.

He's waiting on a new FTW frame now.

I built up a bike for my son from a generic Al frame from Performance and a bunch of stuff from the spare parts bin. The 48cm frame just barely fits now, but I figure he'll get a couple of seasons out of it.
