Huh. Do you do a lot of descending? I would run 180s if I could. I have to let off the brakes on long descents or they will fade.
I am running cyclo x-king 35s which measure out at 38. Love em. But, I ride my cross bike a lot, and rarely do cross races any more. I used to switch to 32 muds for races but I stopped bothering. Wider is just so much less abusive on the body. And the Crux is one of the few cross bikes that can take a really wide tire.

Nice bikes you have all there. How is turn the lemond tourer in racer. i have one lemond tourmalet 2002. I have one bike now i do adjustments. I not own the bike i do for one man. Is GT series 3 aluminum frame with carbon fork i think is 2013. The bike have ST 51cm and TT 53 cm. I ride the bike for 5 minutes in parking lot. Other than the seat i feel is high is 73cm on my own bikes i have the seat in 72cm. I not feel that bike small. I not know why because is newer bike? Or the compact frame do that. My own bike is have horizontal top tube and is 56cm and 57cm. Maybe my bikes is too big for me? In race you use 50/34 crank? I use 53/39 but i want try 50/34

they're not USAC races, so nothing to bust...and i know i'm at a disadvantage sometimes. one race there was some snow, and a few experienced riders chose fat bikes. was kind of lame, IMO.
i also ran a UCI-legal position and bike @ Nationals, though.
nope--not on the regular.
did a gravel race with a couple fast, rutted descents. i can lock up the wheels easily, so i haven't needed MORE power. (if the brakes were overheating, that could be more of an issue.)
for MTB i run bigger rotors, but even then i can get away with 160s (but generally go 180f, 160r).
are you dragging your brakes? which brakes?
oh, yeah--there is a reason the UCI limits the width. makes total sense for general riding, gravel, rougher roads.
but even if i'm racing an unsanctioned race, it's still cross....i just can't bring myself to ride 40s, or a MTB....or a fat bike, even if there are scenarios when it would be faster. i'm being dumb there!

I was just pulling their chain. We only chock tires at UCI events and have very little leeway for failure.
