Two Wheel Questions

1. I want to get nice race wheels with a powertap hub, but I also want the powertap data from training. So does this mean I will end up training on fancy race wheels? Is that what you PT folks do?

2. Stupid question: What is a wheel wagon and how does it work in local races? Do you give them a wheel before the race in case you flat? Do they give you just a generic wheel if you flat and then at the end of the race you give it back to them?

Not 100% positive, someone else chime in. But I'm thinking that the Hed Jet would be a decent powertap training wheel. It's essentially a regular spoked wheel with a carbon fairing on it.

I personally have a PT SL laced to a DT SWiss 1.1 with matching front. I don't use them every race, but train 100% on them.

1) I have mismatched wheels. Ksyrium Elite up front, PT on a Mavic Open Pro rear. I don't care that they don't match (take that DrPete).
2) A wheel wagon carries spare wheels. Most races have a wheel-in-wheel-out policy, which means that you must bring your own spare wheels. Very rarely, races will have neutral service vehicles (think of the yellow Mavic cars in the TdF, that provide parts/bikes for anyone). This is extremely rare though. As always, check with race organizers to find out what the specifics are regarding wheel pits/wheel wagons.

I bought the powertap SL so I have a lighter weight setup in the back. I use it for both training and racing. The hub is laced to a Reynolds Alta Race rim with Sapim CX spokes

PT SL with a Zipp 404 clincher. Ride it for racing and training.

Wheel truck (for a RR) and wheel pit (for a Crit) are wheels in, wheels out. You give them your spare wheels beefore the race (marked with your name and number) and retrieve them after.
