Puerto: All for nothing!

http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/cyclin...=ESPNHeadlines

Lack of "Fair Play" was involved, but no laws were broken.

Hardly. There was no anti doping laws on the books in Spain at the time of the raid on Fuentes lab. But this is hardly over. Once the UCI and WADA get their hands on the documents heads will roll. Of course they will only be cyclist heads as DS's and team owners will get off scott free.

Good discussion already in progress here
Operation Puerto case dropped - who got the screws the most?

Too bad the Spanish tax payers wasted all that money investigating a "not a crime." How much time and effort went to finding out that a crime did not occur? Athletes will indeed, be severely effected by OP and the anti-doping effort will change but the actual Spanish investigation was a waste of money. I am tired of investigations being conducted on legal actions- shouldn't they figure out if a crime has been committed first?

At least dopers will go down that would have otherwise escaped the obviously ineffective doping controls of today.

What do you mean all for nothing? There is a Spanish rider on the podium of the TDF. If Floyd falls a Spanish winner. Think he would have had a podium finish if the riders who were kept out of the TDF had been there?

The French are Amateurs. This is a Spanish conspiricy I tell ya.

We lost Beloki the moment he hit the deck on that descent. He's never been the same and most likely never would have.

That we will never know... But the fact that Sevilla, Mancebo and Nozal were implcated did not help at all.. in my humble opinion the only one i believe was good riddance was Manolo Saiz, while a respected manager problems and controversy always seemed to follow him....

I don't know what this means, but if Floyd couldn't win with Basso or Ulrich in the tour then he wouldn't deserve to win and I don't see how Puerto relates to Floyd's case at all?

I mean all for nothing as in the hype, the suspensions, and the uproar and defacing of the sport.

If Floyd is tossed, Pierero(sp), a spanish rider will become the winner of the 06 TDF. Puerto doesn't affect Floyd, but the combination of Floyd & Puerto could make a spanish rider the 06 TDF Champ.

No Spanish laws were broken because all the evidence predates Spain outlawing doping in sports. I think the UCI doesn't care what the Spanish laws are or when they changed. The evidence is still valid from their point of view.

Wait, do we really believe that there is a conspiracy to keep Americans off the podium? Just curious. It seems to be what Flloyd is hinting at.

And the Spanish authorities knew before the Tour that Pereiro would come second...

I go on a limb and say that Puerto was sidelined because Spanish futball people pulled strings behind scenes. It's known that there were guys from Real Madrid on Fuentes client list. Lot more money involved in futball to just go up in smoke because of doping allegations, methinks...

BTW, that's what pissing me the most. Futballers are doping systematically (Juventus) and we barely hear anything. But cyclists are getting penalized even before proven guilty. That's simply loopsided.

my point was that Floyd winning or losing the TdF has nothing to do with my "All for nothing" comment.

Puerto was sidelined because doping wasn't a crime in Spain. It had to be proven that they were endangering public health. The judge said that doping was going on, but it coudldn't be proved it was endangering riders's health.

So if another sport is lax on doping, that makes cyclists victims? Whose blood do you think is in those bags?
