Cycling Peaks Help

I just bought the newest edition of CP and am having difficulty downloading the data from the PowerTap. I have narowed the Com Port down to Com3. But, after I click download it comes up with an error message that says "An error occurred during the download. Timeout waiting for response." From there I can only close the message. I am having a hell of a time with this. I tried all the other Com ports and when I click download on them it says "Unable to open COM2. The system cannot find the file specified." Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The COM port should say "COMXX (USB SERIAL)". Also, make sure your powertap is on and in HOST mode.

Mine are just numbered COM1 to COM18. Nothing besides that.

Have you installed the drivers for the Powertap USB cradle?

Go to the CycleOps website, Software section. Click on the "Download" link for PowerAgent. It will ask you to register if you haven't before - do so. In the Download section, click the tab for "USB Drivers"

If you don't see the USB/COMwhatever at first then unplug the USB thingy and plug it back in. Sometimes I have to do that to get it to show up. And yeah make sure the thing is in host mode. If I try to download it when it is off but I don't realize it - then I get that error message. The next thing I have to do is restart the program and sometimes the computer. It can be annoying. Once you get the program to work, you will not get any sleep for at least a week

You're right about the sleep. I definitely should have went to bed a earlier last night ut once I got it to download I was just so intrigued with the program. I can't wait to ride later so I can look over more numbers.

For some unknown reason, I'll get the same error message, from time to time. The number of the port appears to mysteriously change, and I've then got to figure out which port its on. (And I'm not changing where the cradle's plugged in.)

I've found over time that if you make sure the unit is in the cradle and reading HOSE befor you open Cycling Peaks, it avoids the problem of the program not interfacing with the PT unit.

i can not get this to work its driving me crazy. I keep getting the same error "An error occurred during the download. Timeout waiting for response."

Ive downloaded the drivers and even used different USB ports but I get the same thing each time. This is frustrating.

it says "host" too.

Make sure the PT is seated all the way in the cradle. I had to push pretty hard the first couple times to get it seated...

so is there a way to view averages and what not for just a segment of a ride? I went on a 3+ hour ride with only the middle hour or so having any intensity and I would like to see the averages of that period. The two hours of easy riding really bring the numbers down.

this is the section i want to see

yup, just click and drag on the graph to select what you want to see. The stats in the bottom left will show for that selection.

Just click and drag over the graphic portion of the data you want to see.

You should also enlarge the "ranges" window. It will show you your best power, hr, cadence etc numbers at intervals for 1 second through 60 minutes.

Use the curser to highlight a section and it will give you data just from the highlighted section.

Select a range. It will appear in the Ranges window at the left. Then right-click on the selection in the Ranges window to rename it and permanently save it as part of the ride file.

The actual powertap only shows my data for todays ride.
