Virtual Coach/training peaks: setting base/build period

I am fiddling with the virtual coach program to see what kinds of things it comes up with.
I entered a start date of this week and put in a base fitness of "strong", yet the program
still starts me out with a full base schedule.

How can I get it to start with a build phase instead of base?

Put an "A" race earlier in your schedule. That aughta do it...

I tried that and also changing the start date, but the program seems to put in the same base phase starting this week no matter what I do...any other ideas?

You might want to check the TrainingPeaks forum. They're great, and you'll usually get a response back from an actual coach.
