Any Comments on Hamilton's performance?

Seems that he is not doing so well at the Tirreno-Adriatico. He is next to last in GC at 26 minutes behind.

Well I thought he was going to suck big-time this year, and I posted just that sentiment here a while back. However, I thought he was doing a bit better than I had expected. My guess is that he might be sick at the moment? There's no way Tyler should be in last place like that.

A sure sign that they'll let him go when he attacks from the line tomorrow.

spring races mean nothing to tour riders, Armstrong never took the spring races seriously.

however, Hamilton is getting long in the tooth, and years off racing cannot be replaced by training.

Saving it up for the TT?

He's in the Long and Slow portion of his training?

Flat tire?

Good god, just abandon

What's amazing to me is he's been tearing up Mt. Washington the past few years, yet in the whole scheme of things he's a slow euro pro

Yes...as many out here have learned, there's a big difference between riding and racing, even for an experienced rider like Hamilton.

A good friend of my mine here in Austin was a competitive domestic pro. He went to Europe and spent two seasons there getting his butt handed to him. He said they are just racing at a different level over there.

the jury is still out. there hasn't been any mention of him, apart from the full results of each stage.

maybe he's sick, or maybe he was caught up in that big crash that took out roche, and broke niermann's ankle, and he's just trying to ride his was through it?

regardless: full props to him for not abandoning.

Could just be that it's early in the season and he's in a heavy training phase... or it could be that he's just not ready to race with the pro's after all that time off... Time will tell...

I would guess a little of both.

Note under his photo on cyclingnews.com, "Tyler Hamilton lost time on stage two, then crashed on stage three." No furher information was given. Looks like he lost 13 minutes today according to Procycling.com

Yes, he crashed. It has little to do with his performance and more about coming back from the crash.

And, haters, please. He paid his debt. How would you feel if you made a mistake, paid your debt, then heard people talking about it like that. Or, do you not make mistakes?

FWIW; Don't take it too personally, they treat nearly all procyclists in a similar manner on this forum. No slack.

The fact that he's right next to Cancellara in the classification would not seem to suggest anything truly amiss. We're not writing Cancellara off, are we?

More like he swindled his fans to pay his debt. The guy was guilty, he knew it, and yet took hundreds of thousands of dollars from his supporters to pay for his legal bills all the while lying his arse off. Yeah I've lost all of respect I once had for him. He was at one point my favorite pro rider.

I do, usually followed by, "I'm sorry". My 4 year old has learned to say it, why can't Tyler?

I hate, because I did believe and he doesn't have what it takes to admit what he did.

Well he did better today. Only 3+ minutes behind the winner. But still, 124th today out of 160 finishers. I also see that Basso abandoned and Bettini crashed again and was taken to the hospital.
