Let's face it: the French will never really get over Lemond's :08 second upset win

In 1989 vs. Fignon @ the Tour de France. I was just thinking today that all of Lance's exploits considered, nobody will EVER top that as the 'in your Le Face' moment of all time. I still remember Fignon lying on the ground, fetal position, sobbing like a baby. God it was beautiful. If you haven't seen it, buy the DVD.

Greg was the original American cycling hero. Always will be for me. Not taking anything away from Mr. Armstrong of course. Just sayin'.

That should make a Hollywood movie out of THAT. But who would play Greg Lemond? M. McCounoughey?

i believe this is the last frenchman who was upset by it:

by all accounts LeMond was more popular with the frogs than Fignon.

Besides, just answer the question: who plays Lemond in the film? Who plays Fignon?

it should be someone who sounds like an idiot when they speak, but once you get past that, it's clear that they're a strategic genius.

Steve Buscemi?

And William H. Macy as Fignon, to continue the Fargo vibe...

This is very true, but unfortunately Mr. Taylor has been lost in the fog of history somewhat. He is however, making a bit of a comeback, I'm seeing Major Taylor T-shirts in NYC. Which is very cool. The African American cyclists are really into Major. As well they should be. Interesting character, true unsung sports hero. There's some B movie about him I've seen on cable a couple of times. It's pretty lame.

Well...George Hincapie has the first part of it down....

*edit* Nothing against George....he seems to be a really good guy and a good cyclist....just doesn't appear to be the sharpest knife in the drawer when interviewing. But....then again, I'd trade places with 'em in a heartbeat, so I guess it's all relative.

Any movie about Hincapie would require horror-movie makeup artists to accurately recreate H.'s varicose veins.

I was 16 when LeMond rocked the final stage of the TDF. I remember the next day bringing the topic up with my friends and being met with blank stares and slack jaws. I also realized then that cycling wasn't exactly a mainstream sport in my little world.

Anyway...that was how a race should end. Forget this nonsense parade around the Champs Elysees while sipping champagne. Give me an all-out-fight-to-the-end race any day.

WTF?! Do you think that that slang term for French people is less offensive than the N-bomb? More acceptable than saying that Asians can't drive well?

I realize that a lot of you would never say these things but feel comfortable making generalizations out of the behavior of 45 million French people. Prejudice is prejudice, even if it's against French people.

A wise woman once said to me, "Don't write down anything you wouldn't want the world to read." Guess you guys missed that one.
