pre-race inspection...what were they doing?
attended the Hanford Sentinel Criterium today in my hometown, it was incredible fun to watch!
i noticed something odd though...i wouldn't think it was odd otherwise, but they only did it to 3 riders in the Cat. 3 mens race.
they took their bike, pointed the crank straight up and down, and pulled the bike backwards for one complete crankset revolution, front wheel off the ground.
what were they looking for?

These were junior racers who must race with restricted gearing.

They were measuring gear inches. The riders were probably juinors, which must use restricted gears. What you witnessed is called roll out.
