F*ck that. I would have gotten in his face after the finish. A million ways to drop you that don't include a brake check.

It gets me worked up because it's a bad move, assuming that was his intention. I may be wrong, but I've never heard anyone say that was anything other than bush league and dangerous. Hopefully he got the message from your stare down.

if he'd sent me into the gravel, I'd be more upset about it. but i just went around him and the guy that went into the gravel.

i was just glad his antics didnt work! woulda been a better "f u " to beat him in the sprint but oh well.

I mouthed off to a national champ because he wouldn't pull while in the break. He took me straight off the road. He then started pulling. It's racing.

Yeah, for me, what happens on the road stays there. I have f**ked with guys on the road who pissed me off enough though. Not much gets through my thick skull though, and I'm not likely to notice most antics.

Masters don't forget and sometimes hold grudges. I was marking one guy at Bethel who has no sprint, he just rides away. I was on his wheel like a maggot on a day old steak. He tried and tried to shake me but he couldn't. His last attempt was to brake check me at the front of the field. Fortunately nobody went down. Gsteinb won and cemented the series lead, I took 5th, and he ended up 20th. I saw him at the after party at White Plains and he gave me the hairy eyeball. Wookie level hairy eyeball. I wasn't doing anything illegal or even unacceptable, just protecting a teammate.

One time I was in a break with the guy who was 2nd in our race series (this was the last race of the series). My teammate was first in the series, back in the pack. Break was two of them, one of me. They kept cussing at me to work. The other teammate would attack, and I'd ignore it. The 2nd guy would attack, and I wouldn't let him go. He knew I'd outsprint him and soak up his series-winning points. The frustration eventually led to us getting caught. Our guy won the bunch sprint and the series. The nice thing is that after the race, 2nd series guy told me I rode a great race and that I completely f'd up their plan.

start of the bell lap. intent to go and either stay away or string the chase out so my teammates don't have to do any work until it's time to sprint. (also, get my name on the loudspeaker at least once)

On the hoods. I don't know the last picture I have of me on the hoods before the ones from Sunday. It also illustrates the pulling over the top that I do. I'm doing a little out of saddle effort to stay on the back over the tiny hill at Walnut Hill Park, New Britain CT. I was at the limit in this race, the Cat 3s, and in fact I couldn't move up effectively in the last lap nor could I do a full sprint at the finish.

I like the follow shot because it illustrates the whole "smart racing" thing. There's a ferocious wind hitting us from the front left on the next straight. This means sheltering on the right. Myself (3rd wheel of the tight trio), Pat G (2nd wheel, multi time Nat Champ, former Olympian), we're both sheltering hard. We happen to be near the back of the field, and if you look at the shots before these there aren't that many riders this conscious of setting up the shelter on the next straight. Like what is the rider with the white helmet thinking? Or the one in orange. They're both hitting a LOT of wind for no valid reason. The guy in front of both of us is another multi time Nat Champ, former Olympian. He seems to revel in riding just off the wheels, he'll also roll along in the 53-54-55x11 for much of the race, etc.

Hanging on for dear life. At the very back.

All pictures: My camera/card, shot by David Wells (teammate).

Now that's a Cat1 suffer face.

Checking the results, I would have had a field day at that race. Oh well.
