back on topic boys

I'm the little guy sitting second wheel. Little but DENSE DNF in that one, but at least I got close to the front, sort of. Bethel, 3/30. Dropped out and two laps later bam lots of hurt in a crash. Oh and you can pick out my one American muscle V8 vehicle in my quiver - its rear door is open in the background.

I thought it was Hingis too. I guess I haven't been paying attention to the tennis world recently.

1. The dragon/turtle thing is something the team of the guy in front (Sommerville Sports) added to the picture (the pic is in their blog). You'll notice there is a "Turtle Crossing" sign we're riding past - there is no "Turtle Crossing" sign there in real life. I was thinking it might be a statement on how fast we were going.

2. Bar is a Mavic 350 crit bar. Same bend as a Cinelli 65-40 (well, 41, if such a thing existed), also same as 3ttt Gimondi 43 cm. I bought ALL of the bars Mavic had left when they were clearing them out - all 2 of them (I skipped the wider 45s). That was in 1997. I preciously guard my crit bend bars, praying someone makes more before I use them all up, I have maybe 4 left.

3. Frame is a 52. Really. Says so on the frame No spacers for stem, stem is a -73/flat, so that helps the front end appear low. I'd have gone smaller but I need the 53.5 cm top tube (prefer 55+ but can't get that and still climb off the bike without squealing).

4. Side of the van are pieces of paper taped to the windows. Race results. That day I drove away without taking them down first (distracted by huge crash, 2 guys to hospital, not a good day). Lost the Cat 5's results, stopped, and retrieved everything else.

P123 race incidentally, with perhaps 1/3 of the field Cat 3s.

Here are a couple of pictures that I just received. These are from the Mid-Ohio Tour last year when I was in a breakaway for just about the whole race.

Trying desperately (for the second time) to bridge up the leaders. Neither of them can sprint, so if I got across I would have won. Oh well.

Leading out from the bottom of the last climb:

Near the finish, ended up 4th (this sprint was for 3rd). The guy in the national champs jersey is our sprinter. Our guy up the road took 2nd, so CSU came up with 2nd-5th.

Hey, I was in that break. I'm in the white jersey behind the big guy. I'm disappointed in how I finished though (6th out of 7). I just didn't have anything left for the finish.

Guess it's an amature move but I couldn't help but glance at the Photographer. I was actually saying 'thanks' at the time although the expression doesn't read that way...

i've got one of those.

stopped climbing, and cut across the road shouting "photo, photo. photo" to an italian photographer.

it worked.
