First Race...

OK, after looking over the Southeast racing calendar, I've decided to make this my first race of 2007(actually my first race in several years!!!)....

2007 Dragon's Challenge Omnium on May 26th, 27th, and 28th. (RR, TT, and crit)

Looks like the criterium will be the state championships.

I began training on March 4th. That will give me what?...11-12 weeks of hard training in my legs by then. I started from ground zero, with no base fitness to begin with. I now have about three good weeks under my belt as I type this. You guys think I can be ready by then? It's interesting that when you identify a target, the competitive juices really start flowing. I already did my 30 mile loop today(2 hours) and I want to get back out there again. Can't wait 'til tomorrow. I will ride longer and harder now that I have a target and a goal.

I'd love to go there with the hope of winning, but I know from past experience that I don't start going really well until about 12 weeks of hard training. So this is going to really cut it close.

I'd say skip the TT since you're working on minimal base. You can definitely be ready to race the RR and the crit, but the TT course is a bastard. It's long, there is no shade, it's windy in places and it tends to be hot. It'll cook you for the crit.

Unless I feel like placing 35th in the crit, I think I'll be skipping the TT this year :)

I'd rather win the TT than the crit.

The crit is the state championship event. The payout is twice as high. It counts for upgrade points.

Although, if you want to contest the Omni then you've got no choice. I have a feeling that a lot of guys are going to take my outlook on things and sit the TT out...which gives Omnium contenders a smaller pool of competitors.
