The Weekend is upon us....

OK, the weekend is here. Hope you all are off working and have lots of time to ride. I'm just wondering what you have planned for riding or racing?

I did a 5 mile run this afternoon after work. Tomorrow I have a 40 mile ride planned, and will try to do 50 miles on Sunday. I have 4 weeks to my first race....so it's time to ramp up. The weather is supposed to be fairly nice this weekend....perhaps 74 degrees and sunny tomorrow, and around 78 degrees/partly cloudy on Sunday.

Maybe I can have a few cold beers too!

I plan on doing two races this weekend. One each day with a bunch of driving to each. I'm sure I will be exhausted on Monday and ready for a day off.

Are you entering a biathalon or something? Not sure why you'd be running like that at this point of the year.

- 'this point in the year' could apply to many different folks, but to those in warm climes, there are races now past...

- that said, a nice 50-miler is in my immediate future (although i can do one any day of the week i wish)...

No biathlon. It was a one time thing. I would have preferred to ride but it didn't work out . Anyway, I feel good about doing something that will improve my fitness even though it wasn't cycling specific. Tomorrow I will be back out on the bike.

Sorry

I have heard "so you still doing those marathons?" way too many times for someone who has never done a marathon. It annoys me now, probably a little too much.

Actually running is my favorite form of cross training in the off season. I don't do weights. However, you are right. This is the time to be on the bike. 4 weeks 'til Tour de Moore.

I wasn't planning to race this weekend but there's a flat crit only 90 minutes away on Sunday so I'm gonna go over there and get in a good ride.

The way I see it, you can use Vegas as a way to either drown your sorrows or celebrate your success. Either way, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Except STDs and going broke.

Going to my LBS to pickup my new bike on Saturday and get it "professionally" fitted. Then a quick twenty miler to see how the fit is. After all seems right home to events planned by the lovely wife. On Sunday out for a 50+ mile ride through the hills with the compact crank to see if I can chew up the hills.

I'm like a kid at Christmas Eve tonight.

I'm headed off to do my first crit tomorrow morning (Saturday). I'm hoping to do a club ride on Sunday, but it looks like the girlfriend is wanting us to go fishing with friends on Sunday.....maybe I'll do a nice little solo 50 miler or so early Sunday morning.

I used to like running a lot until I destroyed my shin and had to go back to cycling.

One of my best "exercise" days ever was going for a beach run on Old Orchard Beach up in Maine.....it was late May, temps around 74 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, low humidity.....went for a barefooted run on the beach in the surf. Felt like I could've run forever....and kept going faster/harder as time went by. After about 45 minutes to an hour, I was hitting a wicked stride/pace.....a lot like Jason Bourne in the Bourne Supremacy when he was running on the beach in India, but at a slightly slower pace. I just wanted to keep going like that.....and wasn't tired at all.

Then my feet were starting to bug me (never ran barefoot before) after a good 6-7 miles, and upon stopping, both immediately cramped up and looked like eagle claws or something when they curled up. That was painful. After that day, I wasn't able to run again....I injured my shin in the process, and then later on due to another injury (non-running), I injured it worse. Now I can't run more than a mile or so before it feels like it's going to split in half.

I hear ya guitarwizard.

I had a tibial stress fracture from running about 4 years ago. My wife had a stress fracture in her hip from running.....this was about 7 months ago. She had to have surgery....3 screws to stabilize the hip.
