Whitewater RR
So today was my first race. I woke up early and drove 2 1/2 hours to UW Whitewater. I got registered and all warmed up. By the time I line up i'm about 3/4 of the way back in the pack. Everybody raced at the same time, men women and juniors. It was a Wisport race which is supposed to be more "friendly".
The race had a controled start down a small hill, and the official start was at the bottom of the hill. We make our way off campus with the wind at our backs, and I make my way to the front of the pack pretty quick. The front was rolling at about 26-27 mph when there is a breakaway as we turn up a hill. So we go up the hill and people are bridging up to the breakaway, untill the breakaway is about 25 riders strong, so it was really just the lead group. I stayed back in the seccond group partialy because I knew I couldnt bridge, and I was havng a hard enough time staying in the seccond group. So my group takes a right hand turn back toward town, and straight into the wind. Pace drops about 5 mph. It was brutally windy. I was slowly dropping off the back of the pack, and then I was alone. This was about 2 mi from the finish. I looked back and there was another lone guy and I just sat up and waited for him. We traded pulls all the way to the finish, which was up the hill that we started at the top of. Coming around the last corner I passed him, and tried to sprint up the hill. I beat the guy by about 15 seconds, but I dont think he really sprinted.
Overall I placed 40th about 2 mins back from the leader. In the 14-19 yr old male bracket I got second! So I got a medal, which was cool. Im really happy with my results, this being my first race.
Ride stats
~20 miles (I started my compuer late)
56:07 total time
21 mph average
33.5 max mph
EDIT: I met hip after the race too. He was pretty cool

Good job.
I've done a couple of Wisport races. One of them was the fastest race I've ever been in. They definitely have a wider spectrum of riders. From 1-2s to "citizen"s.

Nice job. Congrats on the medal and the performance. For future reference, as you do better, USCF officials will get on your case for wearing a team jersey if you are not affiliated with them. Unless Rabbobank has offered you a contract, you might want to save the jersey for training rides. Great report!

It wasnt a USCF race so I was ok for this one
Some guy behind me kept asking me if I spoke dutch then laughing, then saying something in dutch. He was a weird guy. He was singing for the first two miles.

I grew up in Whitewater, population 12,000, Wisconsin. Do you have a map of the race route? There are some good rides around the town.
