DC/VA/MD racers: The Greenbelt series opener is tonight!

Just a reminder to everyone that the Greenbelt Training series is opening tonight at Greenbelt Park. The C race kicks off at 6 PM.

One big change to the rules this year: Once the C race starts, there will be NO warmup on the course. So if you're racing in the B or A races and usually warm up during the C race, bring a trainer, because you won't be allowed on the road.

I'll be a road guard tonight, so no racing for me, but hopefully we'll see you there!

www.route1velo.com <--- click on the "Greenbelt" tab, then General info.

Yeah, it is at kind of a bad time, but the park is easy to access from B-W Parkway, so if you're coming from downtown it's not the worst drive ever.

It usually draws a good crowd, though. Average field size in each race is 40-50. It's good times.

There are a bunch of Route 1 Velo/Capitol Hill Bikes guys and gals who ride up from downtown, but I don't know the way. I'm very fortunate to be a 10-min drive/20-30min ride from Greenbelt Park... I'll see what I can find out for ya.

BTW, Props to NoRacer for getting his first race under his belt. I'll let him do the honors for a report if he so chooses.

I thought it wasn't till late, though... did I miss something? I thought you were in the thick of it for most of the race, and then it strung out in the last 2 laps.

Either way, it looked much less embarrassing than my first race ever, which was also at Greenbelt.

Umm... yeah... right! Sure, that's exactly the way it happened!

Were you on the back stretch near that hard-right?

No, I was at the main entrance to the park about halfway up the hill. I thought you laughed when I yelled "GO NORACERRRRR!"

Yeah, I couldn't find it... in this "in between" time of year, the back seat of my car tends to be brimming with various jackets/hats/warmers/booties/etc. and I thought my cap was in there too.

Anyway, I was the guy that said to you, "..more hills, more intervals."

We need a race like this closer to DC... easier to get to for us city folk. Have they ever tried hooking one up at Hains Point? Or maybe considered pushing the Greenbelt time back a bit?

I'm sure someone has tried, but I'm guessing that closing a park is mucho $$$ in the heart of downtown DC...

As far as pushing the time back, there's just not much wiggle room. Last night it was getting dark as the A's and B's were finishing.

They stop at the end of June, but resume mid-July.

The only week off is a break for 4th of July. Otherwise they run through August.

Thanks. Maybe I can do at least a couple of them in late June. I'm off to Germany for a bit in July.

BTW, that RWE quote is one of my favorites, Pete. Nice choice.
