What's the Avg Age of your local Cat (n) Race?

I just looked at the weekend results of a local race and the average age of the CAT 5 race was 37. The CAT 4 was 36, CAT 3 was 37 and the P/123 was 34.

That surprised me. I would have thought that the average age would have been much younger in those categories especially in the 5s.

How do these averages compare to your local/regional races?

I think it has to do with the fact that the sport is so expensive that a lot of people don't get into it until after they are out of college.

or more like so lacking in popularity that people don't hear about it until later. i honestly didn't even know lance armstrong rode a bike (although i did hear of him) when i was in highschool. there are much more expensive sports out there.

also, things that severely limit your social life in college:

1-not partying all the time
2-getting up early to ride every weekend
3-wearing lycra and spending most of your time with other dudes also wearing lycra
4-spending all your money on bike stuff, race fees, and food

Depends on the social circles in which you travel

I don't know how it is around the rest of the country but the largest fields for the upcoming Dragon's Challenge (in NC) will likely be the 35+ 4/5 races.
