Tyler Hamilton suspended....again?

cycling post

ROME, Apr 30 (CP) - According to the Italian sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport, American Tyler Hamilton is suspended by his team Tinkoff Credit Systems and will probably not be participating in the Giro d'Italia.

Earlier, Hamilton got a two years suspension; this season, the American made his comeback at the Italian-Russian team. Now, Hamilton would be involved in the doping case around Spanish sports doctor Eufemiano Fuentes.

Besides Hamilton, Jörg Jaksche is not allowed to ride as well. Last week, the German was sanctioned for another ten months by the Court of Waadt, on recommendation of the CAS.

I seems like La Gazzetta is preoccupied because 2/3 of the profiles and all of the stage maps for this year's Giro still haven't been posted!

Team Tinkoff thinks otherwise:

Will Hamilton start Giro? Tinkoff says yes

Does it really matter whether he starts? It's not like he's gonna do well.

My understanding is that he is still going to race the Giro.

Also - he has already paid for his crime (i.e. - he was already caught for any doping related to the OP investigation. Double Jeopardy seems like it should apply in this case.

Innocent or not, he did the time for the crime. Jail is full of self proclaimed "innocent" people paying their debt to society. Unless this allegation is of new doping then he should be left alone to race. I have not heard any thing about new doping but rather only the discovery of his doping method back in 2004 (for which he was banned for 2 years already). This just seems petty.

Does the UCI/WADA have double jeopardy protections?

I think it is a travesty that Pete will never get in the hall of fame. What he did was wrong but it should not take away from his accomplishments in baseball.

I could care less if he races, its not like his performances lately matter at all. IF he races he will get ~150th place overall.. so who cares.

Yeah, I think it's a shame, especialyl when you have guys like Mark McGuire and Barry Bonds seeming like they are getting away with crap. I don't follow baseball enough to know if Bonds has beaten any records, but if he's caught up in some PED investigations then I don't think any of his "records" should stand if he has made any

+1.

I have heard more than one judge make the comment that acknowledging and accepting responsibility for one's actions is the first step toward rehabilitation. That makes a lot of sense to me.

It wouldn't surprise me that hitting the juice is so engrained in some of these riders that they get to a point where they truly believe they're doing nothing wrong.

Well, if they award an ESPY for best acting in public denial of doping, Landis would beat his skinny arse out for the award.

Nah, Flandis's story changed way too many times.

They don't need derelicts in the hall of fame. It is insufficient to be an amazing player. I think one has to be a full package to make something as prestigious as the hall of fame. A hall of famer should set a positive example for everyone in all facets of his or her life. Rose is anything but a positive example, his playing prowess notwithstanding. Fortunately, it appears that those that hold the keys to the hall of fame agree with my position.
