Yes, the one on Rt12. We were part of a chase group following a small break of six or so guys(?). He was up near the front as we started to increase speed up Rt12, and from where I sat a few wheels back he seemed to swerve abruptly into the rear wheel of the guy next to him. I don't know if he was avoiding something on the road or came unclipped for some reason. I didn't see. He went down and a few of us went over him. A couple of us stayed with him until the ambulance took him away but nobody I know has heard anything after that.

Gotta give it to you for staying behind for the guy. I was in the main group and did not realize it was serious enough for an ambulance. The course in general was a safe one ... RT 12 was one of the safest stretch I thought. Reminded me that time that accidents can happen anytime, anywhere ... Hope he is OK.

Hey Guys,

Someone just pointed out this discussion to me... I'm the rider that crashed on Rte. 12 this past Saturday. I appreciate you all posting here wondering how I made out. And I'm very grateful to those of you that gave up the race to stay with me until the ambulance came. This has been a strange experience for me since I don't remember a thing about what happened. Here's what I do know:

We were on the second lap. I was in what I believe was the first chase group and the lead group was still in sight. I remember turning on to 12 the second time but that is my very last memory. The next thing I knew I was waking up in an ambulance just before arriving at UMass Memorial in Worcester. And the rest of that day (in the hospital) is still pretty sketchy. I have absolutely no idea what caused the crash though someone else sent me a mail and said they thought someone next to me bumped me. I've been riding for many years and have often been in close groups so I doubt that I did anything squirrely.

As for injuries, I suffered road rash all over my face, both elbows, left forearm and left knee. Also, I have a large bruise on my left thigh/hip and a bruise on my left shoulder. I suffered a number of lacerations on my chin and around my left eye which required 13 stiches. The good news is nothing is broken but I think I've still got at least a couple of weeks for healing.

Any additional info you might have about the moments before the crash or what happened afterwards would be most appreciated since I still know very little about what really took place. Thanks again.

Get well! Hell, nobody wants to remember the pain anyway, right?
