Yup. I figure it's my back yard, so at the very least I can do is show up and play with some of my homies.

You gonna be there?

Good luck, and welcome to the house of pain. Don't forget to get some nice long, hard interval sessions in this week and next...

Race day's on June 10th, which gives me a few weeks to tweak and tune a few things, and I've been riding pretty strong since returning from vacation so I think I'll probably at least avoid being completely shelled.

thanks for the luck! But alas, no beer for me until that evening.

I thought that at my first race too.

Especially if it's a state championship race, it'll be faster than you think. This is normal. Go out there and give it what you've got.

Congrats and welcome to the small pool of people of enjoy the pain. Had a crit yesterday that hurt so much, set a new max heart rate of 211, almost wrecked by scraping pedal in the 180 turn, I have never hurt that much on a bike and I am already looking forward to the next one in 2 weeks!

I like pain, what can I say. Actually, for a big fat ass I don't do too bad on the hills, and the downhill will be a great equalizer.

And remember, it's not just GR, but 7 laps on GR. I'm glad my Gainesville Health membership is paid up because I will be hitting that ice bath Sunday night!

The final sprint is about 2% downhill for quite a distance so your "cottage of wattage" will come in handy. Find a way to stay in contact and not blow up on the two short, but steep, bits early in the loop on the last lap and you should be OK.
