I actually really like it and think it looks cool but does anyone know how/why it ws designed like that? What's the meaning behind it?

I am going to guess but would love to find the real answer. The results were transmitted by telegraph and it reminds me of telegraph tape with the names of the winners etched on them...

That is just a guess....

The Pink Jersey came from the paper that was promoting it....it was pink in color....a pink news paper....intresting...

Correct on the paper. La Gazzetta dello Sport is printed on pink paper, sort of like the Financial Times.

Not sure on the trophy. Perhaps it represents the switchbacks on a climb???

I think the spiral ribbon actually represents a stylized road.

Or it represents changes to the human genome after EPO use.

So what you're saying is that doping has been going on for so long, and is so widespread that human DNA has adapted in its presence?

Interesting...

A mate of mine won a Giro stage in 2000....the trophy for just the stage win was incredible.

Italians certainly aren't subdued.

I think they're all different, depending on the year, what location you are in Italy etc. etc.

Macca's was this enormous, ceramic cup thingy, with blue paint, gold legs etc. Really quite spectacular.

^^ It's ok IMO. I think the Giro one is the coolest I've seen. The TDF's, I think, is lame. But perhaps that;s because they wanted the race to be more important than the prize?

It's not so much that it's a cool trophy (the one from the TdQ), it's that it looks like a rummage sale find that has been dipped in gold and encrusted with jewels

Personally I like the trophy for the Paris Roubaix winner the best.
