Hilton Head, SC riders?

Anybody live in the Hilton Head area? I'll be on vacation there from Sat until Wednesday this coming week with my bike and looking to get in some good (flat) riding in. Thanks!

If you want to drive towards Savannah... Sunday morning Gallery Espresso ride (downtown Savannah), the "long loop" this week (whatever that means--I'm not sure, but typically hammer-fest on Sundays) at 9am.

Also a ride there Saturday at 8am if you read this in time. Ride and pace options available. I'll be there, trying not to cramp up this week.

Another Sunday ride option from Sun City to Beaufort and back. Look up the contact info under the Coastal Bicyle Touring Club website (you'll need to tell Eddie you're coming since you'll have to park outside of Sun City). Be prepared for flat tires...probably goes for all the rides around here judging by my flats last weekend and the sound of tubulars exploding in the mock TT.

Tuesday night 6pm is a night of pain--fast paced lap night at the Sav/HH Int'l Airport. Meet at Shell station on airport side of the exit off I-95. 2 laps around Jimmy DeLoach Pkwy.

Wed. night at 6pm there's a 30 mile ride from the Bicycle Place shop in downtown Savannah near I-16 on MLK. There's also crit practice at 6pm at the GA Tech satellite campus off the Jimmy DeLoach Pkwy [1 exit North of airport on I-95) (go to the big green sign for Crossroads Pkwy, but don't turn that direction (Right, coming from I-95). Go left to a road that appears to go nowhere. At stop sign, take a left. There's a ~1 mile loop around the campus. We do 1/2 of it. Park near the road that cuts through the center--turn for that road will be on your right.]

Either of you going to be at any of these rides?

edit: the weather is looking mighty crappy this week...

I was born and raised in Savannah. Down here for a little visit for a few weeks. Finally getting all the local rides figured out...in time for a much needed tropical storm to rain me out!

If the rain stops tomorrow, I'll head out. Not looking likely. Maybe it's time to put the all condition tires back on.

I skipped Tues night last week because I had some family stuff to do. Tried it once so far. Hung on for about 9 miles before I got dropped. Some people said that effort was pretty good for a first-timer. Ha! I couldn't hang on after they started going over 30mph, so I did some "hill" repeats with some tri ladies after sufficiently wearing myself out in the headwinds.

Traffic on Sunday morning shouldn't be too bad. Even though the airport isn't that far, you'll need to give yourself plenty of time on Tues to get through Bluffton. If you get there early, you can go ahead out to the parkway and warm up. There usually a bunch of people out there who show up at various times. From the Shell station, take Crossroads Pkwy (the road at the light) away from Airways...curves around between the hotels. Take it past Gulfstream etc. to the stop sign. There's the Jimmy DeLoach. Runs between GA 21 and US 80. Do u-turns at the ends. Mostly flat with some strong winds in parts and some overpasses.

I won't be on any rides this weekend probably, maybe sunday morning, but just for :45 out and then i come back by myself.. hahaha The long loop is out past Meldrim, so its like 65 miles, a bloodbath, i miss it.

I sent branman a PM with my cell number etc..

how much longer are you down here for?

Debating on whether or not to stay for Georgia Cup race weekend here or do a race in DC then. So a couple more weeks. I'd love to do the crit around Forsyth.

Not looking like the weather is going to cooperate for Sunday, and there's tons of debris all over the roads, in between the flooded patches. Fun.

I spent part of this afternoon patching my 3rd flat rear tire of the week with my new Michelin tires. Nothing wrong with the tire or rim that I could see. Nice puncture in the tube. I don't know how I ended my ride on Wed night and rolled it into the house full of air. Wouldn't hold any air at all when I pumped it up for diagnostics today. I don't think they can handle the roads tomorrow if the tropical storm stops. I'm switching back to Specialized after this tube dies.

Gah, the tube I patched 7 hours ago is now just about flat again. I guess I suck at patching. If anyone wants to do a later ride tomorrow (supposed to clear after 11am or so), I'll have time to change my tires again (guests are staying in the room where the bikes live) if not by 9. The Specialized All Condition Pro tires may not feel as nice as these Michelins, but I had 0 flats all season. I can't figure it out.

Oh, and if you want to join me for a ride, bring an extra tube . My last spare will be going on tomorrow, and the shops are closed.
