Another Race Report (June 9th)

I raced today too.

I took second in the field sprint, third overall. $25 richer.

That is all.

Brief and to the point ... me like.

Looks like a hilly route. Wasn't that the NYS RR championship race as well?

And second place only netted you $25? Come clean, there were only three guys in the race, right?

It was the championship last year...this year its at union vale.

Field had 100 guys. Your guess was close though

edit: bikereg says 64, so you were even closer than I thought =P

Congrats, KP. Only another month or so before Cat 2?

We'll see! I wasn't counting on having this many points this early in the season, so I'm pretty happy. July is a busy month, I'm counting on getting some points at Fitchburg and Owasco, as Cat3's get points for GC placings as well as road race finishes.

I'm giving myself the rest of the year to upgrade, and even if I do get enough points, I'm not sure I'd even upgrade until the end of the season anyway. I've been tossing around the idea of upgrading just before the GMSR (assuming I have the points), just so I can get a taste of what a Pro/1/2 stage race is like before I start life as a cat2 in earnest next year.

Way to go man, you should definitely upgrade before GMSR - it'd be a brutal way to cap off the season.

3rd place in any race around here would earn at least $100. You guys out east are getting hosed. Hell, las weekend, I was the leadout man for a teammate, faded to 10th and still made a $20 profit, after the entry fee and gas.

I'm not sure KP has a day job.

What's your status Penguin, student, worker or professional Cat 2 in Training?

If KP rode as much as me he'd be a pro by Xmas.

Great report, KP. Almost felt like I was there--especially during the sprint.

I may be working at petsmart soon. Dream job baby

Penguin is a student, a cat2 in training, and a masterful raconteur (as evidenced by my race report).

The field was strung out for the last couple of miles or so, and I was up front helping to drive the pace, which left me in a good position to respond to jumps off the front.

Coming into the final 600m there were two 90* turns, the first one left, the second right. With 1k to go, the guy that won the sprint launched an attack, and the field responded. I managed to force my way onto his wheel, and was 2nd into the first corner. I held my position through the second corner, and had enough of a sprint to ward off the rest of the field through the final 200m straightaway, but not enough to catch the first guy.

Apparantly I threw my bike around so much that I cut my ankle open on the bb opening on the crankarm.

That's like the purse for a 3rd place GC finish in a stage race. I hate you.

I was at the line watching (the Cat. 5 race I was in was only 2 laps), and that was a pretty fierce sprint.

My race this Saturday has $500 ten deep for M35+

Dunno if I'll get any of it, but I plan to bounce off MHR a couple times trying...

Why thank you sir! I was just hoping not to get swallowed up by the rest of the field before the line.
