Tom Danielson - *Dauphine Spoiler...ish?*

Drops out of the first stage with a Stomach Problem.

Seems like this kid is always suffering from some sort of health issue,no?...he's the Grant Hill of American Cycling.

Class act or not, I sat down here in Orlando waiting for his departure to free up some money. Great guy, good for the community, but bad for the win-loss column.

As far as Danielson goes, this is par for the course. Full of talent, but soft as baby powder.

He needs to ride for Jelly Belly or some domestic squad, he's not Pro Tour caliber.

At his age (yes, I used the term "Kid" loosely) talent should include a natural leadership and the ability to see it thru to the end. Don't get me wrong, the guy is a decent cyclist, just not the level he was hyped up to be during his signing to the Disco team...but that's old news already known.

He's impressed that Schleck is only 22 or 23 years old.

I thought he was only 21.

EDIT: Botto got me there...

Schleck rode the lights out of that Giro, and while Danielson's had a respectable Vuelta finish, it's not proportionate to the hype.

As others on here have said, I wouldn't bet against seeing Schleck on the TdF podium in the next couple of years.

ROFLMAO

Sure miss his whiny diaries on cyclingnews......"I love Lance, I am feeling more confident riding in the peleton, I love Lance" repeat.

On the other hand, I haven't won a stage of the Vuelta and a few other wins that do qualify him as ProTour caliber rider, just not the second coming like has been written about him.

How pissed do you think the other Disco riders are with Danielson? I mean, this guy in interviews comes off all pissed off that Disco hired Basso and Levi, as if Tom is the heir apparant. And then, Danielson has absolutely puked in his own mouth repeatedly this season.

I feel bad, because Danielson has done a lot for riding in Colorado (his Junior's Series is going to help develop talent in the United States). I think these "ailments" are nothing more than Tom's excuses for dropping out when he realizes he just does not have the engine to keep up in the European Pro Peleton.

I mean, Tom has ridden the ToC and TdG, which, are both American races with a majority of the peleton being domestic US riders. Ironic he seems to be able to remain in those races.

i have to laugh when i think back to how many cyclists were labeled as "the next armstrong". danielson was one of them, so was hincapie, landis, etc.

It'd be really good for him to go back to the US peleton and actually win some races. Because that's really what he wants to do, and he's not going to do it in Europe.

Agreed...tho he's in a tight situation in that scenario.

Example:
A team like Slipstream would be good for him...but Tom D would not be good for a team like Slipstream (ie, a team just a year or so out from really breaking into the Pro Tour, if all goes well)

There are an awful lot of Pro Tour cyclists that have not won a stage or placed top 10 GC in a grand tour. He is definitely Pro Tour caliber, just not GT winner caliber. His role should be as a climbing domestique and going for stage wins.

If it were not for Floyd getting busted for 'roids...and if he made a hasty recovery with the 'ol hip, I'm sure he would've been back at the top of the game.
