AT&T Austin Downtown Crit Fun

So, first a report of my race.

I went off at 1:55, felt great, blah blah blah. My race lasted 12 whole minutes. I was pushing 310W for the first 5, and peaked with a HR of 203. Needless to say, I got burnt and couldn't hang on. I can TT and spring with the big kids, but i'm dead in the water in anything requiring a 1-5min critical power output.

Got to watch all of the rest of the races, except part of the masters. Team Six guy almost lapped the pack, and they 1-2-4'd the race.

Cat 3 was also fun to watch. Lots of different breaks tried, but it came down to a pack finish. One wreck where someone T-boned a teammate of mine -- took out quite a few people.

P-1-2 was probably the most fun i've had watching a race. Those Toyota United guys can fly, but our Texas guys hung with them! LOTS of breaks, constant attacking, and overall fun watching pros go at it in my own backyard!

Unfortunately, I was stuck course marshaling for everything after my race, and didn't get to see the finishes, but it was a great day of (watching) races, and I learned a lot about what I need to work on. Can't wait for next year!

Yeah, these crits started off fast today. I was 4th into the first turn, and the first 20 minutes felt like a breakaway. We were only averaging about 27, but I think the rough stretches and the hill were keeping things tough. I was expecting 28 or 29 though.

You might consider joining us for lunchtime hill repeats! Your 4-minute power will thank you Seriously, let me know. We have as many as 6 or 7 show up sometimes (Ravenmore has been once).

I'll keep it in mind, but da coach tells me what to do and I always obey.

UT crits are just pain. Plain and simple. I've never done well in them (except this years ToN) so I can sympathize with you! You and have probably raced together, I've raced with a UT guy on a silver Le Monde and he's always got teammates.

I only got to see the P1/2 race and I was at the finish line. What a great race, one of the best I've ever seen. It looked like the Toyota guy had it nailed on the last lap as he took a flyer and had a 12 sec gap. Coming out of the last corner he was swamped and finished mid pack. BTW Joe's on Second street has some of the best hamburgers I've ever had.

I had planned for weeks to make the 45 minute drive to Austin spend the entire day in Austin and watch the race with the wife. The combination of rain and morning sickness (it last all day, why is it called morning sickness) from the wife caused my plans to go out the window.

Sounds like it would of been a good time, I will definitely have to try Joe's on 2nd street, I am all about good burgers!
