Catigory advancement

I just started racing this year, so I am in cat 5. My first event (3 stages) I finished 9th of 20 (and that includes a horrible TT which counted for the most points) and my next event, I finished 4th out of 20 and maybe could have done better if I just attacked about 10 seconds sooner. I feel I am a really strong rider and I go to the past pace group rides where 20 people show up and end up being in the group of 2-5 people that everyone is trying to hold on to and fail. Early this year (before I started racing) rode with a few cat 3 guys and on our group rides, we would always hammer/ race up the climbs and when I started winning on these sprints, they were surprised to learn that I didn't race and said that I would do great if I ever picked it up.

That being said, I am wondering, how exactly do you move up to cat 4?

Continue to refer to racing categories as 'cat' in order to avoid spelling challenges. That will not impress your district rep.

Reading the rule book would be a good place to start.

10 mass start races is normal, but if you are killing the 5s you might get a break.
