Golden crit canceled, but got Lookout Mountain instead

I went to do the crit in Golden, but it was canceled. A couple other guys didn't get word that it was canceled, so I invited them to join me in a climb up Lookout Mountain. Only in town for 2 days, so my lungs weren't quite ready, but I did have a great ride.

I got a Bianchi Eros rental for $25 overnight. Good deal.

Turns out one of the guys was Clark Sheehan! (red/black)

He, umm, beat me up Lookout by about 2 minutes

My dad and step-mom had come along to watch the race, so they followed and took some shots of us. Clark was up the mountain before they started shooting

Nice pics. I'm impressed they had a rental that would fit you -- didn't you say you are something like 6'4"?

No, I came back Friday. Just had the bike Thursday afternoon and Fri morn. Would have been good to ride w/you, but it was a whirlwind visit -- just planned on the crit.

Yeah, 6'4". It was a 61, and he keeps a 130mm stem on it. That was maybe 10mm short, but not enough to bother me. We had to put in an MTB seatpost though, as the stock post only had 18mm in the tube

At least you didn't have to wear the backback on the way up

Thats some pretty good company for a climb. I often see the boys in argyle riding around here in Golden which should be alot more fun next year if the rumors are true.

Shame about the race, we had a decent turnout Tuesday night in some nasty windy weather, wonder why they canceled Thursday?

Hope you had a nice trip (back home isn't it), come back soon.

Thanks, yeah, it was great to ride that climb I've done 100s of times before. I used to ride up from downtown Denver and climb it 3 times. Too bad I never got good at climbing. It was a great venue for intervals though

Yeah, seeing Millar and Axl out there would really be something. I remember back when the Boulder rides had Phinney, Hampsten, Kiefel, Engleman, and all that crowd. Even Bobke sometimes Austin's been turning that direction for the last 10 years. Pretty cool.

The race had a conflict with the Boulder Sheriff's Dept, doing some training on the course. They had it until 10pm. Graham (the littler guy) was telling me that you guys lost Meridian this year, and the Golden Crits had replaced it. Shame. Meridian was a blast, and I'm sure there are a lot of southern metro riders not making it out to Golden.

Good times. Lots of memories riding around there. I wish I could have stayed a couple more days. The next morning I did some intervals and my lungs felt about 95%, so I was nearly used to the altitude again. I'd really like to try my current fitness out there, but I'm pretty convinced that I'd have gotten my ass handed to me in that crit, based on my breathing on Lookout.
