Goals for 2013

Yep, its that time again.

I'll start
Top 20 Tour of the Gila
Upgrade to Track Cat 2
Podium at the Gateway Cup

I'm suspecting that the two parts of my season will look very different.

(mods feel free to close this if I duplicated a thread, I didn't find it in a quick search though).

ftp up to 5.2-5.3 w/k (tough but once again do able
weight down to 145 for major races, and sit at 150 for most of the season
win some races
top 10 at natz (either crit or rr)

Ride my first: crit, rr, stage race.
Top Three in :Mt. Lemmon TT, Kitt Peak TT, Mt. Graham TT.
Hope to do well in other crits, but I just want experience at this point.
Get weight down to between 150-155. 4.2 W/kg by late spring.

Pretty simple: win a (cat 1/2) race.

Hmmm. According to this training plan spreadsheet, my goals are:

Podium in both Tour de Tuscaloosa races (crit, RR).
Top 5 Hell of the South.
And, hopefully as a natural outgrowth of those and other results, upgrade to Cat 3.
So, basically, come into late March/early April going really fast and kick some ass. My top secret stretch goal is to win one or two of these races, but I'm already aiming for a pretty significant improvement over previous results.

Upgrade to Cat4 and gain experience. Finish some RR such as Hell of the South. Start to utilize power for training while keeping the spouse/family happy at the same time.

1) Race more and eat less
2) Train hard enough to see some results to help motivate me.

e-wang:

break 1100W for a 5" sprint. This was the goal last year, but may actually be doable
break 600W for 60" (doable). Again a goall from last year, and the signs are there that I was probably capable of this last year, but never tested it. 9w/kg would be swell.
break 390W for 5' (doable). Again, same as last year, though i really didn't focus on it; shows how meaningless this ewang is despite doing well in VO2max intensive races.
break 325W for FTP (doable); currently at 285W, peaked at 315W (69kg) last year.
get to 68kg by end of December, currently at 70.5kg; 66-67kg for peak races in early April
Build enough anaerobic strength to contest small-group sprints.

racing:
enter more races. Finally graduating and getting into the real world should make this more realistic
Get in meaningful breaks and attack shrewdly. Got good at this last year, now i just need to get better at it and make it with the break to the end. Work on my racing poker face.
Continue to improve my skills at surfing wheels and cornering amongst skittish riders. Again got pretty good last year, just need to keep on working at it.
Win in a few Collegiate B races.
Upgrade to Cat 3; help teammates upgrade to Cat 3.
Most importantly, racing safe

work/life related:
Defend my thesis in the Spring and learn to live in the real world . Northern VA, here I come.

Well I raced my first a few months ago in September, somewhat based on what I learned about myself and just my goals that I would love to reach:

1) Find better motivation, for some reason the past two months have been awful, I still love biking but found myself incredibly lazy to just get dressed and ride.

2) Get a trainer and come out of the off-season in the best shape possible for me so that I can start the season reasonably strong and have a chance to finish higher in the rankings when most people (I assume) will be a little more lazier than usual.

3) Race and ride LOTS!!

4) Podium at least once.

5) Hopefully show myself and my coach that I have potential and move up into his 'good books' to focus on me a little more. I want to do good in the future. (Just for the record, he doesnt have a 'good book', he is fair to all riders that he coaches)

Yeah, been at Columbia for the last 4 years or so doing my doctorate. Will be moving down to VA in three weeks.

For whatever reason, either injury, schoolwork, or whatever else, I never did CRCA races nor have I done many non-collegiate races. I presume you are on a CRCA team?

I'm a member of CRCA but race unattached to any teams within. I'm looking to start a CRCA subteam for next racing season though but looks like you're going away. Let me know if you know of any cat 4s

1. Crush jsut in a sprint - just kidding
2. Lead my elite boys to some good results and get them catted up
3. Top 10 in an NRC race (lofty as they are too early in the season for me)
4. Give back to the sport which I love so much by helping others
5. Have fun and not threaten to kill anyone in a crit
6. Finally get in the qualifier for the Athens Twilight main
7. Nationals in the home country
8. Manage my time better

Ah and the thread starts to degrade

I want to drop some weight, get back to 2010 numbers (hovering just around 160 lbs) or less. Once I do that everything else comes much easier. Results will follow the weight loss regardless of what training I do. That year I upgraded to Cat 2 but I stopped training and downgraded to 3s for 2011. We wanted to start a family. We now have a little boy so my main goal is to be a great dad for him.

I have bike race related goals but they don't involve racing. Promoting races, helping others promote races, etc.

to race my bike more than 6 times…

I don't mean ride in the race, i mean actually be strong enough this year to actually race…to have impact on the outcome.

That is all.

1. cat up to 4 with a strong effort to get to 3
2. A good showing at Tour de Tuscaloosa.
3. A good showing at the Sunny King Crit
4. Make it to Mt. Everest Challenge and complete both days
5. Maintain the structured training I've been doing for the last few weeks and not go back to just randomly riding around while calling it training.
6. Take a real vacation that last longer than 2 days.

At this point, I don't really have any goals. Since tweaking my knee back in September, I haven't ridden much and my off season training plan has fallen apart.

I guess my goal is to regain my fitness, race as much as possible and finish our Saturday morning hammerfest with the front group.

And to be honest, if I can accomplish the third goal, I should have no trouble racing. And as Rkwaki and my coach have said, at this point, accomplishing the third goal is as much about learning to ride smarter than it is about riding harder.

More podium placings. Maybe even a win.

Get everything right during the Everest Challenge, get my fifth finish, and get farther in the top 10.

Have fun.

they ought to demote you back to cat-4 until you can do that

just kidding. I wish my racing category is higher than what my ewang would suggest...

I have come to understand that to be successful in this sport you have to have both patience and power. Based on what you said you have one but not the other

- Upgrade to Cat 2
- Top 5 in a Crit
- Podium a RR
- Get to at least one Stage Race and do well (Not an Omnium like they prefer here in the SE, ugh)
- Get more comfortable and fine tune aero positon on the TT bike.
- Win a TT
- Make the trip and finish Battenkill
- Make the trip and finish the Everest Challenge
- Ride the mountain bike some, maybe do a few races, don't die
- Get that FTP up (4.3w/kg is not going to get me to Cat2, or at least allow me to survive as a Cat2 if I did cat up)
- Race with a team, and enjoy hanging out and racing
- Don't wreck! Rubber side down!
