Kashechkin popped for blood doping
Man, I wished I'd published this here instead of sending it to my friend privately. But I'll still go for the "Nah, nah, nah - I told ya so!!".
Below is an email I sent to a friend who's a fellow bike racing nut. Dave Z had just been knocked into third place by two Astana riders in two major ProTour TTs in succession. The Giro and the Dauphine Libere. In the Dauphine he was absolutely murdered by Vino and Kashechkin and the Giro by Eddy Mazzolini and Paolo Savoldelli. You could just see something was fishy.
Now three of these guys have been popped. Is Il Falco next?
Anyhow, thought I'd share in light of this new development.....

Here's the TT results from the last two big ProTour TTs:
Dauphine:

Giro:

In the Dauphine Dave Z was followed in the top 10 by:
Cadel Evans
Denis Menchov
Stef Clament
Sylvain Chavanel
Levi
Valverde
David Millar
Now I'd call 5 of those guys TOP time trialers (Evans, Menchov, Chavanel, Levi and Miller) plus one up-and-comer (Valverde). Don't know anything about Stef Clament - for all I know he's a pure TT specialist. Now Vino and Kashechkin are very good but man did they put a butt-whoopin' on the rest of the field - their advantage over Z was bigger than Z's advantage over Valverde. Kashechkin actually caught Big George and he still finished 13th!
In the Giro I'd normally predict Dave Z to whip Il Falco and Eddy Mazz badly all else being equal. I wouldn't call those guys top time trialers - though Savoldelli is pretty good. Somethin's fishy, says I.
It sure looks to me like Dave is time trialing as always but these guys are just faster. Astana beat CSC at the Giro Team TT as well - and CSC came loaded for bear for that event. Fabian Cancellara - reigning TT World Champ, Dave Z - reigning American champ and second at worlds last year and Bobby J, reigning Olympic bronze/silver (depending on how you feel about Tyler's gold) medalist in the road TT. A regular "murderer's row" for the TT. OTOH, in that race Astana had neither of their best TT guys (Vino and Kashechkin). Hhmmm.....
