DA or Da Leap?

The Ultegra brifters that DrPete so kindly sold me a while back are seeing the end of their days after lots of miles and some crashes. What shall their replacement be? DA or Force (+ Force RD)? Discuss.

After using Shimano for like...ever....I built up my Trek 2500 race bike with SRAM. I like it. A lot. I now much prefer the SRAM bike over the Shimano bike. Took about a week to get accustomed to it, but I wouldn't trade it.

Get the Rival brifters and RD and save some cash. The only thing that is a noticeable difference between the two groups is the crankset.

bdcheung 08-14-07 06:26 PM

And the brake lever... CF on the Force and brushed AL on the Rival, right? I know I'd be paying for bling, but boy do I love CF.

GuitarWizard 08-14-07 06:30 PM

Oh....well, if ya want carbon, then Force. Me, I don't care either way....as long as it works :).

CastIron 08-14-07 06:47 PM

Campy is CF.:p

ElJamoquio 08-14-07 06:52 PM

I have a new take-off Force RD I was thinking about selling if you decide to go that way.

yeah but i don't want the added cost of replacing all my freehub bodies and cassettes. Shiftmate is ugly.

DA...for now. PM JRennie and ask his opinion on SRAM.

bdcheung 08-15-07 07:20 AM

Yeah, I mean, I'll admit that one of my fears with SRAM is the exploding RD.

GuitarWizard 08-15-07 07:40 AM

Mine's been ok so far with over 1,000 miles on it....

MDcatV 08-15-07 08:04 AM

make da leap

<opinion based purely on the wicked cool SRAM commercial during the TdF>

UT_Dude 08-15-07 08:33 AM

I have two Force RD's, on my TT and Road bike. Thousands of miles later, I haven't had any problems with this blowing up rear derailleur stuff that I've heard...like...one person total whine about. Plus, it has double tap = good.

Make 'da leap.

crash13 08-15-07 09:36 AM

I can't wait to make the leap!
I only wish Shimano had internal shifter housing and carbon fiber bits and pieces. This is the only REAL reason I'd switch to SRAM. I do like the Double Tap concept, but haven't ridden it enough to form a solid opinion.
That being said, there's really nothing wrong with my Ultegra components, other than the shiny metallic look.

Pizza Man 08-15-07 12:02 PM

I've raced/trained exclusively with SRAM Force since February.

Over 10,000 miles and 27 races with no problems, I love the group.

I can't wait to try SRAM Red for my next group, probably not until 2009 though.

Its the cost of getting into the club but when I switched, I broke even on selling my wheels. Cassettes? Its hard selling cassettes but I made back some money.
