I meet ReedZ @ the World Fred RR Championships (aka Tour de Goshen)

I had the pleasure of meeting ReedZ at the Tour de Goshen (NY, Hudson Valley) today. It was a 20+mph 62 mile deathmarch enjoyed by all. Thankfully Joe Straub, ranked #1 in NY and #60 in the nation in the Masters Individual TT rankings and his evil henchmen were not there (they are training for Killington) or it would have been a friggin bloodbath.

Pcad cramped so bad on the last little climb he was crying for his Mommy (unfortunately there were witnesses). So he was unable to bridge to the 4 dudes who tempo'd off. But he did manage 7-8th or so and was back @ the parking lot before their HRs recovered (maybe 1-2 mins back). What did this get me? It made my legs sore.

    Thank God for Advil.

It was great meeting a BF member in person. I do hope he's not stalking me. That's all I need. Now Blonduathlongrl, SHE can stalk me.

    7th?

    In a Masters 4/5 race...with what, 50-60 total riders?

That sounds like a solid f'n result man. You may not be as slow as you think

Incorrect. This is NOT a race. It does get turned into the World Fred RR Championships by the participants, a mix of racers, freds, etc. It is not a result. It is an embarrassment.

Pcad of course knows no shame.

I actually intended to post this in the Road Cycling section, but the lactic acid from today is seeping into my brain. At about mile 45 or so, the Tour de Goshen has a disturbing tendency to morph into the Orange County Lactic Acid Festival.

They did have a nice big hot air baloon at the finish/picnic. It should have had a cool Lactic Acid logo, but it did not. I had a couple of Pepsi's and a couple of water bottles and beat it home (I cycled over there). I have a hard time socializing with bike weenies like myself. It creeps me out.

Self loathing is the most important part of any cycling existence.

When I saw "Goshen" I thought you'd taken your act to Indiana or Egypt...showing up with all that stuff would intimidate the heck out of everyone...

How can you have lactic acid when you ride a zillion miles a week?

BTW...Doc Ray will accuse you of having too much blood in your thighs...

You silly weenie. When you ride as much as I do without taking rest days, ALL you have is lactic acid. I hallucinate on it.

Did you see Sr. And Jr. Teutals while you were hallucinating on lactic acid?
I feel like a soiled kleenex dropped in the gutter in the red-light district of Paris.

Actually all I have to do to see Sr. is drive by the gas station in Goshen where he fuels up his Hummer. But seeing him in person does feel like a hallucination. He sort of looks like video game character come to life. Now if HE showed up on the Tour de Goshen it might get interesting.

But we would drop him like a friggin hog.

The Tour de Goshen wasn't that slow in our group. 62 miles, rolling hills (nothing too long, but tons of 100-800 meter grinders). Average speed approx. 20.5mph for the first 10 guys, the remnants of a group was still about 25-30 riders @ mile 45, larger than the Goshen peloton typically is that late in the ride. But the last 18 miles shed most of the bunch. That ride is really fun, but if you're having a bad day the up and down course can put you fairly deep into the hurt locker. Pcad was utter Wasa at the finish. I wasn't in the mood to participate in the post ride BBQ.

The event was very well attended, 500 cyclists of all ability levels, rides that varied in length from 10-62 miles. Nicely run, beautiful ride (I train on most of those roads with some consistency, so I know every hill and curve). I would guess most of the people here would really love that ride. It would be great to get more BF members there next year.

Of course if KP shows up, I will be forced to sneakily put Loctite on his crankset while he is registering.

Rumor has it this was the last year of The Tour De Goshen. My dad participated this year and my mom helped out with registration, and said she was talking to Brian, owner of Joe Fix It's, and said he probably won't put on another one. Hopefully there will be one, and maybe I will try and plan a trip out there to attend, I did it a couple times when I lived out there, definetly a fun ride.

Oh no, the World Fred RR Championships will be forced to find another venue. By the way, the last time Brian's shop put a chain on my Ibis, I rode 4 miles and it fell off. I take my repairs elsewhere now.

The TdG is alive and well. Aug 17th, 2008. 0800 start for the metric group (62mi).
Show up early if you want to go up in the balloon. Funny, I never feel like going AFTER the tour.
Brian managed to get the Goshen Rotary to be the main sponsor, and most of the proceeds will again go to the Winslow center. They only have paper applications, but I scanned it so I could send it to my NYC pals.
I can email it to anyone who asks.
    Hope to see y'all there!

You just can't kill the World Fred RR Championships. You better just hope that little Joe Straub and his DKNY Henchmen are off at the Tour of Spain or someplace so they don't rip your friggin Weenie legs off.

If I can hang with them until Craigville Church, I'll consider that a personal accomplishment! (Weenie legs and all) We ALL say, "We're just gonna tour" but I guess the testosterone kicks in. ALL Freds at heart...
It's funny watching some start out at 20+, then bonk before they reach RT-211 :-)

The stretch before that Craigville Church rest stop has one short climb that can split things up followed by a series of grinding rollers. If you're not in some kind of race shape it can be tough to hang with the lead group.
